Does getting wisdom teeth out hurt? I'm talking during the procedure and afterwards.

I am not being put to sleep. Just being looped up on the drugs.

You won’t feel anything during, but afterwards it will hurt for a few days and you won’t be able to eat solid food for a while

I had 3 out with a general anasthetic it was uncomfortable but didnt hurt and was cool the next day nothin to shout about cant remember about the stitches tho dont think they were dissolvable gettin them out was probably the worse part
@SW-User Oh really? I just assumed that the stitches would be dissolvable. :O That would hurt a lot considering where it is.

@Spoiledbrat yeh apparently my teeth have long roots or something and they had to cut my gums to free it from some bone i had 2 stitches from 2 and 3 from 1 of them

@lauriethecolourful nah it didnt hurt i was totally numb, and getting them out didnt hurt as i remember just that weird feeling when they pull them out and you feel it travel through the skin.. i have big teeth tho more time you wont need stitches
It hurts afterwards. That’s normal procedure.

It really varies person to person. For my sisters, it took well over an hour just on the chair. For me I was in and out 40 minutes with no pain.
That’s true. I know someone who had to see an oral surgeon to get theirs out. @raysam363
@raysam363 Very true. I know a guy that basically had to e held down a little on the chair and I know people who said it doesn't hurt at all. I think some people can't differentiate between the pressure and the pain? Because I'd imagine you'd feel a ton of pressure.

@lauriethecolourful Four wisdom teeth and painkillers without pain. Pretty nifty, but I know I was lucky.

They should be doing IV sedation . They will numb you anyway ..,you will likely be numb all day ... lay in soft foods
@TexChik I would choose that option, but it costs more money. :D

@lauriethecolourful ahh so only oral sedation ?
Ouch! I went for full sedation. God was I freaking stoned when I woke up!
I recommend a diet of Doritos and hot sauce for the aftermath.

When I had my wisdom teeth extracted, I had nitrous oxide ("laughing gas"), along with novocaine, and I was conscious during the procedure, but felt nothing. I had some pain afterward for a day or so, but it wasn't terrible. I took some anti-swelling pills beforehand; I was given prescription Tylenol with codeine for pain afterwards, but I only took one dose.

It wasn't painful at all for me. They gave me anesthesia that knocked me out completely. Although I was a little drowsy for the rest of the day.
I had that done back in ‘89. My dentist was doing an implant last month and found bone fragments still embedded in there from then. That was just fantastic

I was a little sore afterwards
SW-User
I wasn't phased by it
