Why tell me this information about your newborn?

Idk why people do that, post the weight, length, time, location. They're setting the baby's identity up to be stolen

I never understood why those were the first questions out of anyones mouth when I had a baby.
As to why people ask, it has a lot to do with forever ago when child mortality rates were high. A good size is the sign of a healthy baby. It's a bit archaic to bother with asking now. You can likely just check their facebook page.

I wonder if it dates back to times when so many mothers didn't survive child birth and the fact that something the size of a football has just been sent through something the size of a garden hose and they've lived to tell about it?

good points, it always has sounded like they were telling you about their prize winning buck or turkey they just shot on a hunting trip. it's odd :/

I’m not sure exactly why people want to know the weight and length, but many do, I guess so they can speculate about whether or not the child might be big.
