Why tell me this information about your newborn?

Seriously!

Why tell me the weight?
I'm not going to cook and eat it.

Why tell me the length?
I'm not about to go get tailor made outfits for the little pooper.

Just tell me the name.
I'll congratulate you, and I'll send the kid a best-of-luck card!

I never understood why those were the first questions out of anyones mouth when I had a baby.
As to why people ask, it has a lot to do with forever ago when child mortality rates were high. A good size is the sign of a healthy baby. It's a bit archaic to bother with asking now. You can likely just check their facebook page.
