Why do (some) women feel compelled to wear makeup?

Because they think it makes them look prettier. Society seems to dictate that wearing it will make them more desirable.

Uh, because we like it?

Most of us aren't immune to the constant in your face adverts and magazines touting what the ideal look is....skinny - clear skin - young skin - large eyes - long lashes - pouty lips....
We have been shown over and over through television - magazines - people we know - music videos......
If you aren't blessed naturally with the perfect combination.....what's a girl to do....put on the heels - throw up the lunch - paint her face.....and hope that someone sees the real her. Ironic huh?

Because it is fun and makes you look nice.

For fun, to correct an imperfection, to look nicer.

It does make people look nicer if done correctly. Otherwise it's clownish. And in winter I'm pale as a ghost, need some colour in these cheeks.

They might feel not pretty enough or feminine enough

I suppose, it's a bit like why you might polish a car. It enhances the looks that are there in the first place. Whether that is a good thing or not, is in the eye of the beholder, of course.

I wear makeup, but I don't apply so much that I look like a clown. It makes me feel prettier & sexier.

I'm not compelled and don't wear makeup every day. I wear very little any way, just enough to enhance my own natural beauty.⭐💃💄

Sometimes it's uplifting..I like to have some days without it though to let my skin breathe..

Cuz I like having cheekbones and sexy eyes. It makes me feel good and it's fun to play with! Don't get me started on what a treat going to the hairdresser is. 🤷

Self-satisfaction. It makes some women feel a lot prettier than they do without.
