Remember government cheese

Yeah we thought it was good. My grandpa was retired and got commodities and he didn’t care for the cheese so we got it. Made good grilled cheese sandwiches.

No, have heard of it, also heard from some older folks that they got "butter" during the depression. It wasn't actually butter it was lard with a yellow dot wrapped up. They tell me their mother would have the kids toss it around to pop the dot and make all the lard yellow so they could finally call it butter.

@cherokeepatti Yellow coloring is the most cancerous thing we eat. It is outlawed in Scandinavia by the Governments there!

@cherokeepatti My mother talked about that. She said it was more orange than yellow.

@4meAndyou I had a teacher that talked about it in the 60’s, she said it looked too bright...butter is a pale yellow.

No, I don't, but I have heard about it. Apparently it was given to large families in big blocks, like velveeta.
