17 shot in two hours here in Chicago. Coupled with the El Paso and Dayton incidents, it's been a very violent week.

@BlueMetalChick The number of deaths is about 15,000 a year (in the US). Since 2000 the number of deaths is approximately 270,000 in the US, caused by gun violence. Twice the population of Dayton, Ohio.
[edit: Considering these numbers, mass shootings are almost irrelevant. A woman killed by her own husband is much more typical.]

@CarGuy61 It's so confusing too because when you talk to people, they all say the same thing. Stop the violence, stop the killing, stop the shooting. But if everyone is saying that, who's doing the shooting? It's scary, it's like those people exist separate from us.

@Lucia You're correct, unfortunately. More people have been shot to death here in Chi Town than soldiers have died in Afghanistan since 2001.
