Are there quite a few people who served in Afghanistan that ended up on drugs?

From kha sanh.
Auzzie soldiers struggle with PTSD after Vietnam..

And she was like so many more from that time on
Their lives were all so empty, till they found their chosen one
And their legs were often open
But their minds were always closed
And their hearts were held in fast suburban chains
And the legal pads were yellow, hours long, pay packets lean
And the telex writers clattered where the gunships once had been
Car parks make me jumpy
And I never stopped the dreams
Or the growing need for speed and Novocaine

Statistically, I don't know that way, but it's common for veterans of war to have PTSD and look for ways to self-medicate.

Just wondering. I had a hotel guest today that was really bad off on drugs seemed really, really crazy. Had to call the cops on him. Then I looked at his old fb page and saw that he used to look perfectly normal and it looked like he had served in Afghanistan

@swandfriends You see many kind of folk go through your doors, then. Hotel life, not one I know truly, but my best friend was a night auditor at one for years.

Someone at my work, he served in Iraq during the original Gulf War, while he talks a good talk if you break him down you know what he saw broke him some. He also served as a volunteer firefighter for years, but he chose he couldn't do it any more. He's not mixed up with drugs, but you can tell if you really listen he has things in his life he doesn't want to see any more.
Did you serve?

I'm sure there are. There's a different mentality these guys have to be in to serve in a hot zone. That mentality is one that allows you to pull a trigger on other humans. Not everyone can block those memories off when they return to civilian life, and as their mentality returns to a killing is wrong mindset, then their actions however justified at the time really do haunt some of them.
