You rub off a scratch ticket and win $5,000 a week for life.

What would you do the first month and the first year?
PrivateHell · M Best Comment
I would put it away for the first year or two and continue as I am now. Once I got a nice little neat egg saved up. I would upgrade my truck and RV.
@Stereoguy right now would take a couple more years. But I plan to when I can

The first month I would sock it back. The same with the first year except I would take some out to help a special person that has helped me more than anyone ever in my life. Maybe a new vehicle or something because otherwise I could never afford to do the things that have done for me.

With the first $20K, I would find a financial advisor, a decent lawyer, and create an LLC for charities and other aspects of the like.
I would pay off debts.

Within the first year, I would buy a beach house...

I've already paid off all my debt, so the first month I would contact an amazingly honest, extremely nice financial lawyer I know through my former church.

I would make arrangements with him to ensure I had great apartment at an assisted living, very well taken care of, in my old age. Those places are enormously expensive. They cost $5000.00 a month for the nice ones.

I had my mother in one of them, and I would love to live in that sort of luxury when I need help to take care of myself.

Then I would probably use the rest to live in a more luxurious manner before that day arrives. First on my list, a good security system, and a four man jacuzzi with steps and rails so I can get hot and woozy and still get myself out.

The first year I would donate 2000 each, each week to helping troubled teens and saving pitbulls. The final 1000 a week for 2 weeks out of the month I would donate to local food banks. $1000 a month I'd donate on random vetranatian bills and the last $1000 a month I would save so that in total I'd be donating all but 12,000 a year and I'd use it for vacations. On the rare months there's 5 weeks I'd donate it to some good cause. I don't play but if I did I could definitely put it all to good use. Otherwise I'd be renting storage units to hold a surplus of school supplies, books and junk food.

First month: I'd hire a lawyer and make an appointment to see my accountant.

First year: I'd go back to school to get my Master's degree and teacher certification, since right now the biggest deterrent to me becoming a teacher is the money - both the cost of the Master's degree and the pay cut I would have to take once I found a job. $5k a week for life would make that a non-issue.

@Stereoguy Something with less than a quarter of a million miles on it, like my current car has.

Nothing drastic in the first month.
Second month I would officially "retire" from the workforce.
First year i would have secured/built my forever home and property, then secured my family's financial future.
From then on, I can have fun and "do good" with the money.

Build my beach house in Tamarindo, Costa Rica and the following year pay off my mortgage.

Is that USD? because that's 6526.00 @ week with the exchange. Woohoo

Nothing different. I already make more than that, so I'd just step up my timetable.

I'm as old as dirt and in lousy health so the first thing I'd do is set up a bunch of direct debits for my wife and kids after which they'd feel so guilty I'd no doubt be pampered to fuck for the rest of my days. 😁
First month would be serving out my notice at work.

First year work out investment plans and work out budgets and how much I could give away :)

@Stereoguy No less than 50 acres....mostly wooded. Would have professional built kennels for the dogs, a quarter acre garden. House with tons of windows in the middle of the property. If you are driving down are road you either know us or are lost. Covered back patio with built in outside kitchen. Screened in front porch. Lots of big closets. A room for my books and crocheting and a shop for hubs connected to the kennels.
