Is it possible to have a civil discussion here about politics or religion?

Riverman · 56-60, M
Things would really be a lot calmer in here if everyone would just accept the fact that I am right. 😂
I think I've seen Burnley do it.
Wraithorn · 51-55, M
It is possible, yes. I have seen it happen. However...the stars must be aligned correctly, the wind must be blowing from the East and a meteor must hit the atmosphere at just the right angle...while a dumb man speaks to a deaf woman sitting at the corner of a round table eating soup with a knife and fork.

Well bless your heart.
gregloa · 61-69, M
It’s possible, but not with an atheist or a hardened liberal.
GerOttman · 61-69, M
@gregloa Heeyyy... I'm an atheist, and I have feelings too! Feeling a little wounded here!

Religion and politics ... Civil. If you have a civil talk with someone on those subjects you can only reach one of 2 conclusions: one is dominating the other (trough social position or job hierarchy) or one moderates their discourse and beliefs because they have something to win by either playing along or antagonising just lightly enough to keep it interesting but not really challenge the other.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
Of course if you find someone who agrees with everything you believe.
indyjoe · 56-60, M
Don't count on it...I guess it's possible if the person you're talking with is on the same page as you, but differing opinions and beliefs often go from simple debate to arguing and fighting very quickly. That's why I avoid those two topics most of the time. Respect seems to have no place there.
Pffft no. One side tries to have a reasonable discussion and the other side uses memes and insults. If you try to be respectful the other side complains about how PC you’re being as if that’s a real thing.

Sure. But it takes two to tango. That's the hurdle. If it's coming from a place of fact then it's possible. If it's just belief? Not going to happen.
PrivatePeeks · 26-30, F
Unlikely in an open forum. Maybe if you selected informed speakers for a debate you'd get somewhere.
NeloAngelo · 26-30, M
sure. providing your ready to block the 50 or so people that don't agree with u apparently.

@Nomorecupcakesplz What do you mean by that remark? What are you trying to say? Huh..!!
MartinII · 70-79, M
Yes, though it’s rare to complete one without someone trying to spoil it!
With certain people. With others no. And those others will invade the thread.
kartoffelkopf2 · 36-40, M
Only far right extremists like to discuss politics on SW!!!
GunSmoke9 · 56-60, M
@kartoffelkopf2 I see a lot of far left extremists on this site.
GerOttman · 61-69, M
Possible but unlikely. I can stay civil all day long, pretty much...
Pfuzylogic · M
Did you want to have a discussion?
SW-User
@Pfuzylogic I've had certain questions that I've wanted to ask, but I've decided against it.

@SW-User
I can understand your hesitation.
I've seen it done, but I certainly can't do it!
TexChik · F
