Does it irritate you when super positive ppl force a huge smile on their face and say nothing can be wrong if you think positive?

Those people don’t understand depression. By over simplifying complex emotions and circumstances they just make you feel even more inadequate.
Smiling won’t fix broken relationships. It won’t bring loved ones back from the dead. It won’t magic money out of thin air and it won’t stop the dark thoughts that tell you you’re worthless.

@Bleed spot on. X
Very much - though they are not a billion percent wrong.
Still makes me want to punch their face.

people who say such things have never endured severe pain/injury, suffered massive loss, and/or experienced true depression

and in many cases, if & when they ever go experience those things, they can't reconcile their naive thinking with reality and end up killing themselves

The book The Secret irritated the hell out of me. The facile assumption was that if you didn't get everything you wished for, you were putting up roadblocks with your own negativity.

@4meAndyou That idea is so blatantly false, it's amazing that so many people bought into it (if they did).

I've thought about reading that book, but what you just said tells me that that would be a big waste of my time, not to mention annoying. So thanks for saving me some time and energy. :)

I honestly dislike that approach. Suppresses other natural emotions like pain and disregard depression.
I don't like it at all.
But some manage to be OK and positive most of the time.
Good for them.

Yes. I find them very irritating. I think they are about as genuine as a three dollar bill.

While to some degree they have a point. When you only focus on the negative things will only get worse. However it's not as simple as thinking positive and it feels as if they are negating the feelings of those in pain.

I mean I can where a person would want to try to stay in a good mood throughout the day even if there's something wrong, but to think that simply thinking positive is going to keep bad things from happening is not being very realistic
RubySoo · 56-60, F
Often those people are hiding their own pains and frustrations....kidding themselves into trying to believe all is well....when it clearly is not. I cant do that....ever.

Yes, it does very much. Lots of things are wrong, and to deny this is as stupid as saying that if you just believe that a locked door isn't there, it will magically disappear and let you pass right through.

I do think that we may be capable of accomplishing much more than we realize. After all, we only use a small percent of our brains, which means that we have a lot of untapped potential. But we have to start by seeing the truth, which is often ugly and painful. To get to where we want to go, we first have to clearly see exactly where we are.
