Why was it considered bad luck to have a woman on board back in the day of sail ships?

@SW-User when I am skipper, I have to be very tight on the leash, fellows can get to be a handful.
I'm good at it, and can say the hardest thing crew wise,
is the man/woman thing.
but i have also known some moments, where just the right kind of woman, can make a voyage into a Most Happy Time.

you would have been very welcome and very able on certain cruises up to Alaska!

i took there catch to the proccessor, brought them gasoline, basic supplies,
AND had the extra benefit of selling them such things as they needed from my own stores,,

so when 3 ladies I know, from an entierly different part of my life asked

@SW-User For whatever reason. Maybe the captain claims her or one of the deck hands and they fight and people take sides. Etc... Much better to have enough women to go around rather than just one that gets fought over.
