Why was it considered bad luck to have a woman on board back in the day of sail ships?

@mysteriouslion okayish - i didn't go out anywhere - just stayed off internet for the most part ^^ well usually i kinda try to pacify both guys and tell them i'd do them both even together if that's how they'd like it but i'd rather not have them fight so hard over me <3
