Why do so many police officers act like filming them is against the law?

User41 · 36-40, M
They don’t

My brothers a cop an loves body cams.

It’s gotten him out of a lot of trouble actually.

perps accusing him of racism or discrimination were found to just be lying and in fact, breaking the law on video footage. 🤷🏻‍♂️
NorthernRoses · 22-25, F
@User41 Exactly! Body cams are the best thing to happen to cops, especially for the cops themselves.

I just don't get it, like... There are cops who see a uber camera in like, car pullover situations and act like you could go to jail for filming them, even when the cops in question are doing nothing wrong other than lying about their own rights. What do they even get from it?
MrNoBody · 36-40, M
Most of the cops I know and have met actively encourage people to film, however they also don't want footage of their actions being taken out of context. Example: Man, who happens to have dark skin color, robs a store, shoots 4 people, steals a car, drags police on a car chase for 12 miles, before crashing and being dragged out of the car by police officers who use a lot of force to stop the mad man from hurting anyone else. Film shows police drag a black man out of a crashed car and savagely beat him. CNN, FOXnews, MSNBC, ect all run a story about how cops drag black people out of cars and beat them, playing the same video over and over again.

Because people film them, post it online and most of the time they get shit just for doing their job.
NorthernRoses · 22-25, F
@ReallyTallDwarf Dude, they get tons of more shit for making up bogus laws that don't exist in their own favor than doing their job on-camera.

I made this post because a police officer was demoted for telling a dude he pulled over that he could go to jail because of a camera in the car. The driver was a defense attorney who knew very well that people have the right to film officers on duty.

They can't live up to what they are supposed to enforce?

It would have to be a tough position but often bullies are hired onto the police force. I've dealt with them and it's not a surprise; if you're attribute was presence is intimidating, what would you search out?

It's an appropriate question to ask. Just today it turns out that the police appear to have deliberately lied in the case of the undercover policeman (who was married) who had a sexual relationship with someone in his undercover role. First they denied it. Then they said yes their policeman did have a sexual relationship with someone in his role as being undercover, but that sexual relationship would never have been sanctioned or agreed with. Now it appears that this undercover policeman's bosses both sanctioned it and knew about it. It's totally unacceptable deceit and it undermines the whole role of the police in society and all those decent proper hard working policemen and policewomen. It's a disgrace.

Because we have to do asthey day and not as they do apparently. One thing they forget is that they are one layoff away from being one of us.

Many of them believe wrongly they are the law and not that they are 'servants', and exist only to uphold the law.
Probably because they break the same laws they’re enforcing
Inquisator · M
Here it has been used by gangs to identify cops so they can get to them and their family, but also to put a negative spin on anything the cops do

It IS against "the law." If you film them, they are afraid of proof of them doing things against the law 😂
So, they "fix it"

because cameras out means stunts, there is probably one out there but I have yet to see a video where they get mad at a fixed position camera
Jackaloftheazuresand · 26-30, M
@sarahcupcake Wrong, I mentioned fixed position cameras for a reason. Most of the time when someone pulls out a camera it is to cause trouble and use it as a shield, that was my conclusion
NorthernRoses · 22-25, F
@Jackaloftheazuresand Most of the time people pull out cameras it's because something interesting is happening and they want to document it. I haven't seen anyone interfere with the police when filming so 🤷

Also it's still super illegal to tell people to stop filming when they're not interfering.
Jackaloftheazuresand · 26-30, M
@NorthernRoses No it isn't, it's illegal to physically stop them. I watch these videos and I have an interest in legal matters and conduct. Officers are allowed to lie. I imagine this is why the demoted officer got reinstated.

Because They Think Their Above The Law
@JohnOinger LOL silly police no one is above the law only except Judge Dredd 😁😎
JohnOinger · 41-45, M
@Teggy 😄
Harriet03 · 41-45, F
Police Orifices, surely!
vetguy1991 · 51-55, M
They have a guilty conscience
TeresaRudolph71 · 51-55, F
Probably because they are breaking the law themselves. I'm sure that the police officers who beat Kelly Thomas to death several years ago were not at all happy to find out that someone had a video of what they were doing, and posted it on youtube.
