Does this sound stupid?

For me to not reach out to old profs to pull some strings for me as far as jobs. I don't want them to look bad if I don't perform well. When I was looking for an internship (months ago) I asked a prof and he told me that I need to be serious about it if he's gonna get me in. I ended up declining his offer because of that, AND the fact that I had a job, mandatory volunteering and 5 classes.

I feel like I let myself down too easy.😩
They can't blame you for trying! I say, go for it! The worst you'll get is a "No," which sucks for a moment, and then you move on with your life. It's admirable that you're trying so hard to do well for yourself. Not everyone has that kind of drive and/or opportunity.

@lovelywarpedlemon Yep, I hate it. And people, mostly professors and really high ups would tell me to continue with school and become a professor or get a Ph.D. For what? I can't even get a job now...
@iamnikki I wish you well on your journey. ♥

You have to believe in yourself and your in abilities to succeed. There’s nothing wrong with asking professors for help, people do it all the time 😇 Some are really happy to help and go out their to do it if you’re a good student. It sucks you had to decline that offer, I would have accepted regardless of what he said. The fact that he was willing to do it says that he had good intentions. He most likely wasn’t trying to scare you away with what he said.

@GreensCornbreadYamz It was a real prestigious type of company. One where he knew the CEO/manager really well. Like I said, I had more responsibilities than just the internship, which was unpaid.

It isn't stupid at all. Most people will try to help. Some profs are better connected than others, so ask a few people not just one (I know from experience).
