Late Monday, National Transportation Safety Board officials said that the train, bound from Seattle to Portland, Oregon, was traveling at 128 km/h, on a curve with a limit of 48 km/h, when it jumped the tracks

I mean there is no excuse ... Unless there was some mechanical failure it's manslaughter

You are, painfully, correct. But the train line was also at fault for not having installed rate limiting equipment on that "new" route, before the accident occurred!

This is only what they have told the public. We don't know what really happened and most likely never will.
