@Meatboy Love is fleeting. Statistics will show you that love is very temporary. At best, it only lasts a few years. The rate of cheating is very high and the rate of break ups and divorce are very high, because we're not a monogamous species. I would rather have reliable happiness than make decisions to achieve the highs and lows of relationships.

By the way, while it's true that masturbating more has been shown to reduce the chance of prostate cancer, it has also been shown that celibate priests have a lower chance of prostate cancer than the rest of the population, so perhaps there are more important factors than whether you masturbate. Maybe good mental health, a good diet etc. are more important.

@BanPlastic Love is far more important than that. There is nothing more important than sharing that bond with someone, feeling happiness like that it is beautiful. Who cares about the statistics, you're most likely just saying that to give up. Love is ALWAYS worth it

@DeluxedEdition If you look at human history as far back as our hunter gatherer days, we have never been naturally monogamous. According to statistics here, 25% of people have cheated - and how many more who didn't admit to it? Divorce rates in some countries are around 50%. Close to 80% of relationships end in the first year. The romance phase usually dies in a couple of years. Couples may stay together after that for the sake of children or just commitment but they will also start to think about other people... Lol.

@DeluxedEdition Ideally we could all be monogamous and happy but I'm just being realistic about it. It doesn't come naturally to us. It's not like the fairy tales. I'm not disagreeing with you that monogamy would be great in an ideal world, but I just don't think it's ever going to happen... In the US, 40% of people have cheated.

But I think sexual restraint would definitely help with monogamy. If we have a lot of sex and watch porn, we become addicted and then start to look for novelty (new people). But if we limit sex (maybe just use it for procreation), it might be easier to stick to one person since your relationship wouldn't be based on sex.

The purpose of your relationship becomes about family rather than sex. This would probably make monogamy more likely. It wouldn't matter anymore if you lost interest in your partner. Your relationship would have a deeper meaning than sex.

But this true love bull shit definitely isn't working. Lol.

@Meatboy But why choose something that you know is probably going to fail and lead to pain, over and over again? Just for the small chance that something might work out? Is it worth it? If it's worth it to you, then go for it. But to me, it's not worth it. I can't handle break-ups, even when I'm the one who ends it.
