If Bernie Sanders had ran in Hillary's place, would he have beaten Donald Trump ?

That is what everybody keeps saying. But Bernie Sanders is a self confessed socialist. But he has put up some big crowd numbers, like Trump. And he had the youth vote in the palm of his hands. And yet he kept on uttering that socialist word. I don't like that, and Im a Liberal. What do you think SW.

I think he would have. Earlier in the election when it was projected that Hillary would win by landslide (before she screwed herself), it was projected that Bernie would win by an even greater landslide if he were to go against Trump. And considering Bernie is mostly consistent with his politics, perfectly healthy for his age and nowhere near as crooked as Hillary, I think he would have at least had a real strong chance against Trump.

Sanders vs. Trump would have been a dream match-up too. Two anti-establishment candidates proposing big changes that could very change the face of America forever. But unfortunately, crooked Hillary and the DNC had to screw Bernie and cheat to make sure it was Hillary running against Trump. And now look, it ended up being all for nothing.

@TexChik: See? You're going to think whatever you want and not consider anything I have to say for a moment. Really no different than the liberals and special snowflakes you hate so much! Think what you will then, you're going to anyway.

@Zonuss: It wasn't exactly total socialism but I understand the concerns and criticism. However, that's for another discussion.
Zonuss · 41-45, M
@Carver: Okay.
We all just witnessed what happens with the "Popular vote". What is it that you don't like about the words, "Socialism" and "Liberal" ? Should business be something more than just making profits for a few while the workers that produce and eventually consume the products aren't living as good a life as those who receive the profits, are they superior beings ? Under Socialism Is everything "FREE" nobody works, they just hang out all day long. How can anyone receive benefits from a government where no one works or pays taxes ? Is a liberal someone that believes that making life a good human experience for everyone that contributes a good thing ? I think so. Have you ever seen an interview with anyone living in a Socialist country that said it was a bad way to live? I don't think so. WHY ? We can give it a more desirable label like, AMERICAN GOVERNMENT, by the people for ALL the people.

I think it would have been close. He had the numbers. But now he's starting to sound like the rest of the dems instead of an independent so I've lost respect for him..

I think he would have likely come out on top though.. But again. Still would have been close..
ajsk13 · 51-55, M
well lets see his qualifications, he claims in his bio he was a homeless, worked in the welfare office signing people up and became senator,(he's accomplished so much there) actually flew to Russia to get married because he and his wife believe in socialism so much (go figure)..lied to the 20 something crowd promising the world then in the end stating he probably couldn't deliver folded when he found out he had been duped by the DNC, doesn't sound like someone I'd vote for
Ynotisay · M
@ajsk13: Well, you know, Independent.
Of course, Marco Rubio, Ted Cruz and Rand Paul have combined to pass two bills they wrote in to law so...
At least Sanders did a little better than the Tea Party god Ron Paul. 1 for 620 sponsored bills and that one was regarding the sale of a custom made home in Texas.
ajsk13 · 51-55, M
Ron has pretty much been an outsider though, no one liked his proposals
Ynotisay · M
@ajsk13: True Sort of like the Independent Sanders. It's hard to be on the "outside."
Outside of his roll call amendments he also excelled at inserting provisions in to bills prior to vote. Got some good stuff done.

I'd love to think so, but we never really know. Since Clinton we've had 8yrs of a Dem, 8yrs of a Rep, 8yrs of a dem, seems like a bit of a pattern. With the exception of Truman and Roosevelt any back to back same party presidents only served single terms.
Ynotisay · M
What is it that Obama said? Americans like the "new car smell?"
Yeah. Pretty much.
Zonuss · 41-45, M
@Ynotisay: Thank you.
Ynotisay · M
I think that if you think the word 'communist' is applicable then any response I would make would be futile and moot. So I won't comment.
Zonuss · 41-45, M
Hmmmmm.
Ynotisay · M
@Zonuss: Oh. I see what you did. You edited your post to say "socialist" instead of "communist," huh? Also don't seem to get the difference between a Socialist and a Democratic Socialist. That's OK. It contains nuance. Not everyone's thing.
zerofuks2give · 41-45, M
Probably. Many people didn't vote or voted for Trump because they disliked Hillary so much
Zonuss · 41-45, M
Agree. 🙂
JohnOinger · 41-45, M
A lot of Liberal Celebrities Preferred Bernie Sanders over Hillary
Zonuss · 41-45, M
True.
Aidan · 26-30
Doubtful America doesn't want to be socialist and for good reasons
Zonuss · 41-45, M
Some say it already is. 🙂
SW-User
nope..too socialistic...
Zonuss · 41-45, M
Yes. I think so, too. 🙂
TexChik · F
The results would have been the same. His loony plans to punish the rich and provide everything to the poor at a 90% tax rate , including free college are just part of the socialist agenda ... he would have lost
Zonuss · 41-45, M
I see.
TexChik · F
@Zonuss: his own party conspired against him to make sure he would not be the candidate
Jazzy · 26-30, F
Yes! And he would be better I think
BlueDiver · 36-40, M
Progressives are pretty much a cross between socialists, and a team of kindergarten soccer players running after a ball of demagoguery in one big clump, without any understanding of strategy or the larger picture - I'm pretty sure that they would have all voted for him.
