No reasonable person would believe Trump lawyer's lies about a stolen election. Says who ....?

..... Sidney Powell herself (or at least her lawyers on her behalf) no less.

Superlawyer and member of Donald Trump's 'elite strike force' of election fraud lawyers , has responded to the $1.3 billion lawsuit that Dominion filed against her.

"Would reasonable people conclude that the statement (hers and Trump's preposterous claims of fraud) is one of fact, in light of its phrasing, context and the circumstances surround the publication. [...] Analyzed under these factors, and even assuming, arguendo, that each of the statements alleged in the Complaint could be proved true or false, no reasonable person would conclude that the statements were truly statements of fact."

So , if you believed any of that in the first place , then that makes you ... errr ..... stupid ?

It is pretty much an indictment of Trump's supporters and a very revealing glimpse of the essence of Trumpism.

@RodionRomanovitch While I agree that some individuals will always be the cruel bullies who will hurt animals for the joy of it, I cant bring myself to tar every Trump supporter that way. I prefer to see them as shortchanged on the American dream and striking out in frustration.
But the assessment of Trump as a rich mans idiot son with no ethics or conscience is spot on.😷

@whowasthatmaskedman It's degrees of cruelty on a spectrum. Some of them just want to sock it to the libs , others actually want to kill people.

@RodionRomanovitch Most places, being a Sociopath is considered a bad thing..😷

Well, if this goes unpunished, it will be another great day for Conservative Fan Fiction.
In short, the speech at issue here is not actionable. As political speech, it lies at the core of First Amendment protection; such speech must be “uninhibited, robust, and wide-open.” N.Y. Times Co., 376 U.S. at 270.

Additionally, in light of all the circumstances surrounding the statements, their context, and the availability of the facts on which the statements were based, it was clear to reasonable persons that Powell’s claims were her opinions and legal theories on a matter of utmost public concern. Those members of the public who were interested in the controversy were free to, and did, review that evidence and reached their own conclusions—or awaited resolution of the matter by the courts before making up their minds. Under these circumstances, the statements are not actionable.
The party of personal responsibility and it's friends can say what ever it wants, no matter what the consequences (like triggering a bunch of people that break into the capitol), with 100% impunity. Because "reasonable people" know not to listen to them. It's the responsibility of the dumbasses that follow them, to not listen or vote for those that have no responsibility what so ever.

I honestly think this kind of reasoning would make Milton Friedman super proud.

(He didn't call those consumers of bad choices that are being highly promoted stupid... but I guess in todays world they are at least "unreasonable" and we should all sue the shit out of them. Don't blame the salesperson/politician, blame the consumer/voter)

So in essence the argument is that no sane person could possibly believe the idiocy these people were saying? 🤣🤣.
And yet at this very moment I am discussing with two always trumpers about “the steal”. Hmmmm ya can’t make it up...

@MistyCee the connection between trump and the evangelicals is fascinating. I am convinced that for most evangelicals being Republican is a key part of5heir religion not, as they probably want to believe, a result of said religion. Being on the front lines of a black and white struggle between good and evil is a powerful feeling. And a key of Q and evangelicals mind set. And obviously not all evangelicals, as my daughter makes clear all the time.

@MistyCee You may be correct.. As an outsider I still have trouble getting my head around that level of Blind Faith in the end justifying anything. Luckily so far it doesnt seem to have infected the superior courts. (Even where Trump gave them the job.)😷

@monte3 admirable - I mostly don't have the patience or energy for them

He doesn't lose very well, he stated that himself.
I think Quinn nailed this one
