No reasonable person would believe Trump lawyer's lies about a stolen election. Says who ....?

..... Sidney Powell herself (or at least her lawyers on her behalf) no less.

Superlawyer and member of Donald Trump's 'elite strike force' of election fraud lawyers , has responded to the $1.3 billion lawsuit that Dominion filed against her.

"Would reasonable people conclude that the statement (hers and Trump's preposterous claims of fraud) is one of fact, in light of its phrasing, context and the circumstances surround the publication. [...] Analyzed under these factors, and even assuming, arguendo, that each of the statements alleged in the Complaint could be proved true or false, no reasonable person would conclude that the statements were truly statements of fact."

So , if you believed any of that in the first place , then that makes you ... errr ..... stupid ?

So in essence the argument is that no sane person could possibly believe the idiocy these people were saying? 🤣🤣.
And yet at this very moment I am discussing with two always trumpers about “the steal”. Hmmmm ya can’t make it up...

@monte3 I really dont get where she is going with this. The Defamation suit doesnt require that it be "reasonable" for it to be believed. It requires that she say it and that harm be done to the business. I think she shot herself in the foot with this..😷
@whowasthatmaskedman Its bizarre, but its worked before: https://www.businessinsider.com/fox-news-karen-mcdougal-case-tucker-carlson-2020-9

@monte3 its a cult... dont try to reason with these people.

@whowasthatmaskedman She's basically admitting that she made it all up. A world of pain is heading her way. And Rudy's.

@SummerDream after 4 years you think I would learn. 😊

@RodionRomanovitch we can all hope...

@MistyCee I read that. But in that case Carlson was a media person expressing "opinion".That could be passed of as being as sincere as WWE wrestling.. Where this woman is a Court officer making a serious charge of direct electoral fraud. I dont think the courts will view it in the same light😷
@whowasthatmaskedman I hope they don't, but keep in mind, she's being sued not just for what she said in her pleadings, but what she said on air as well.

FWIW, I just reread the Motion to Dismiss the 12(b)(6) failure to state a claim stuff of which this is a part is not really that forcefully made. I haven't analyzed all the venue and jurisdiction stuff, but if there's anything even remotely to it, the court should punt on the merits and let another court decide whether "lying for Trump" is a legal defense.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@MistyCee Ahh. The "Nuremburg" defence. Isnt it amazing how coincidentally that period of history parallels this one..?😷
@whowasthatmaskedman it is, maybe a little less so after Trump lost the election though.

I was really more getting at the "lying for the Lord" thing though rather than just following orders. Trumpism's embracement of alternate facts and rejection of honesty and decency towards other human beings seems pretty basic to supporting him in a way I don't really remember hearing much about at Nuremberg.

@MistyCee the connection between trump and the evangelicals is fascinating. I am convinced that for most evangelicals being Republican is a key part of5heir religion not, as they probably want to believe, a result of said religion. Being on the front lines of a black and white struggle between good and evil is a powerful feeling. And a key of Q and evangelicals mind set. And obviously not all evangelicals, as my daughter makes clear all the time.

@MistyCee You may be correct.. As an outsider I still have trouble getting my head around that level of Blind Faith in the end justifying anything. Luckily so far it doesnt seem to have infected the superior courts. (Even where Trump gave them the job.)😷

@monte3 admirable - I mostly don't have the patience or energy for them
