When Trump eeks out a victory with voter suppression and the Electoral College:

For Trump to win, again, without winning the most votes would shatter whatever remaining faith millions of Americans have in the political system. Our simmering legitimacy crisis would almost certainly heat to a boil. After such an outcome, how could you say this was a democracy? How could you say, if you prefer the terminology of the 18th century instead, that this was a republic? --Jamelle Bouie

I think winning the we electoral college without the popular vote would be fair, as in within the rules. People can disagree with the electoral college system.

I think the voter suppression you have in America is a scandal though.

@Burnley123 There is still a real problem. It doesn't matter how badly he loses, if he can convince the various Republican administrations in the swing states (and maybe others) that the election has been stolen from him, they can simply refuse to allocate their electoral votes to Biden, then neither side will probably have enough to win. And failing that, he can ensure he can drag the process on in the courts for weeks, if not months, while doing as much damage as he can with executive orders.

@SW-User I think a mess like that will definately happen if its close. If its not close, the rest if his party will disown him but his hard-core base will still insist that its fixed and riot. Right wing terrorism will rise with Trump out if office.

@Burnley123 'I think he will challenge the legitimacy if he loses.'

His niece Mary , who just wrote the book , had a good take on it. She was explaining how his narcissism disallowed him from thinking that he would lose because of his unpopularity. Hence we know see him laying the ground to explain away any defeat as a conspiracy against him.

'I wuz robbed' 'It's so unfair ' ...... blah blah blah.

With this outcome....I would seriously either 1) leave the country or 2) join a serious resistance movement.

@SmartKat I agree -- It's all just so depressing.

@SmartKat Name one person who promised to leave the US if a certain candidate won an election and really did. I'll add your name to the non existent list

@Strictgram Part of the problem is that there are few countries willing to take Americans anymore. The right-wingers have given us a worldwide bad reputation and lost all our friends for us. Now, the sane, decent Americans are trapped here.

So, I’ll look at option 2: active sabotage and resistance of right-wing bullshit.

he didn't win last time why would it be a democracy?

"Trump got elected with votes. Democracy has failed because our grip over what information can be put on tv and social media didn't work. fascism and violence against minorities is now acceptable so let's assault minorities who don't think how we say they should, for tolerance. Trump bad! We have no democracy!"
