Do right-wing people take for granted things fought for by the left?

I didn't write this story but I wish I had: 😂

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF NOB, RIGHTWING BREXIT BRIT.

Nob gets up at 6am, and fills his kettle with water to prepare his morning coffee. The water is clean and reasonably drinkable because some tree-hugging leftie fought for minimum water-quality standards. With his first swallow of coffee, he takes his daily pills. His medications are safe to take because some stupid commie leftie fought to ensure their safety and that they work as prescribed.

All of his healthcare is free because some Labour leftie created a thing called the NHS - now Nob can use it as and when needed.

Nob prepares his morning breakfast; bacon and eggs. Nob's bacon is safe to eat because some girly-man leftie fought for laws to regulate the meat industry.

During his morning shower, Nob reaches for his shampoo. His bottle is properly labelled with each ingredient and its amount in the total contents because some crybaby foreigner-loving leftie fought for his right to know what he was putting on his body and how much it contained. Nob can read the container because some mardy leftie thought it would be a good idea to send Nob to school at the age of 5 instead of work.

Nob dresses, walks outside and takes a deep breath. The air he breathes is clean because some environmentalist lefties fought for laws to stop industries from polluting our air.

Nob begins his work day. He has a good job with excellent pay, sick pay, pension and paid holidays because some lazy leftie union members fought and died for these working standards. Nob's employer pays these standards because Nob's employer doesn't want his employees to call the union.

If Nob is hurt on the job or becomes unemployed, he'll get compensation and unemployment benefits because some stupid lazy leftie didn't think he should lose his home because of his temporary misfortune.

Nob is home from work. He plans to visit his father this evening at his old home. He gets in his car for the drive. His car is among the safest in the world because some job-hating leftie fought for car safety standards. He arrives at his boyhood home.

Nob is happy to see his father, who is now retired. His father lives on benefits and a union pension because some champagne-drinking, cheese-eating leftie made sure he could take care of himself so Nob wouldn't have to.

Nob gets back in his car for the journey home, and turns on a BBC talk show. The radio host keeps saying that Lefties like Keir Starmer are bad and the Conservatives are good. He doesn't mention that the beloved Tories have fought against every protection and benefit Nob enjoys throughout his day. Nob agrees: "We don't need those big-government, Euro-loving lefties ruining our lives! After all, I'm a self-made man who believes everyone should take care of themselves, just like I have."

Very good little essay. Thank you. My grandfather was murdered because he was a union organizer in Chicago back in the 1920s.

@Burnley123 Thank you. My dad was a very talented, Academy Award winning blacklisted screen writer. My family went from riches to rags during my childhood.

@greenmountaingal The way things are going, we could really do with unions rising again.
@Burnley123 oh gods yes... and avoid the corruption that came to dominate them here in the states

So you call brexiteers nobs?

That is racist.

I am sure some of the parents of the kids you teach would appreciate you calling the majority of English people nobs.
Racist

@InOtterWords He is just a troll acting in bac faith. Its not worth it.

@Burnley123 No I am not. You post silly articles, lifted from an obscure football fanzine, and can't take it when you are called out. Your manner has been condescending and hubristic. You insulted me and I hurt your feelings by returning your insults. As I stated before, the internet was made for people like you. You can say what you like to me. But , I know you don't have the courage to tell me these things to my face.

On the other hand I would take great delight in insulting you to your face.
@InOtterWords @Burnley123 [c=#BF0080] im from the uk too. I really beleive Labour will be in power soon. Im not political but it just so happens my ideals andbperception of common sense is aligned with the left. Its no bad thing 💕[/c]

Here's another story, an American Tale!

The water is clean and reasonably drinkable -

Cuz reasonably drinkable is what the left shoots for.
Of course, you gotta pay mightily for it.
Don't even THINK of collection rain water - against several regulations!
BTW, it's illegal to water outdoor plants.
And, you know that puddle at the end of driveway every time it rains? It's been declared a federal waterway - you need to pay to drive through it.

he takes his daily pills -

Fresh from China! What could possibly go wrong? There's no new advances in medications cuz there's no benefit to pharmaceutical companies, but hey your anti-cancer aspirin is totally free - at least until your case has been reviewed by the death panel! Well, they don't call it that - but THEY decide whether or not you receive any treatment or just,... you know, end of life counseling. But hey - you don't have to pay for it! Totally free - until you die. Then there's the death taxes. But lucky you - you're already dead!

Breakfast bacon and eggs? Nuthin better than government bacon! Hardly any actual meat, but goes well with government powdered eggs. Everyone is allotted 17 bags of powdered eggs every month - as long as they're not on restriction again. And you can get as much government bacon as you want - cuz no one wants it!

Ahh - the shampoo - it's the one, the only one on the shelf anymore with the generic label. You may have discovered that while it doesn't clean hair very well - it's pretty good at removing rust!

YEah, we go to government schools at the age of five. We start indoctrinating the kids young. Some of the kids actually qualify for graduation. Those that don't - well, they get to graduate too cuz it would be mean to insist that everyone pass the tests!

Smell that fresh air! Remember how the smog cleared in LA when everything closed cuz of covid? Well, since government has regulated everything out of business everywhere - the air is crystal clear!

The car I drive home hasn't been invented yet, so I gotta walk to and from work. I used to ride my bicycle, but license fees got so expensive - I was going to sell the bike - but I'm not registered as a bicycle vendor. I can't dispose of it either - need a special permit - and that is NOT free.

IN fact anything you actually want to do isn't free. The crappy bacon and powdered eggs and aspirin bit that's about it.

I'm not supposed to be talking about all this 0 so mum's the word, OK? I don't want to be tagged as 'unccoperative'. Lenny, my neighbor got tagged 6 months ago - we haven't seen him since.

@Burnley123 don't you find it funny how Americans are so brainwashed by advertising they cannot find reality from fiction.
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@InOtterWords A section are also so brainwashed by crank websites that they think most sources are cultural marxism!

Good post and would make great points if I can find the specific groups who fought for labeling on shampoo or regulating the meat industry and if they were indeed, leftist or not both in the US and UK. I'd have to track down the politicians and groups responsible but I can't seem to find anything.

Because I know some bloggers who are not right leaning activists in the political world but they are pro-meat activists who are typically right leaning based on the issues they talk about, but care about factory farms and are talking about ways to reduce the impact that factory farming has. They talk about alternative farming methods etc.

So I'm not entirely sure... there was one republican for instance, in which wanted to legalize LSD based on sound research by hospitals that it could possibly cure drug resistant depression and PTSD.

I'm not trying to start an argument or anything though, was just curious if this was entirely true or not.

I'd have posted a 🤣 but sadly I meet Nob and his mates pretty much daily. 😢 My grandad fought through the 20s and 30s and into the 40s until he sadly died just two years before the NHS was born from his campaigning. I sadly listen to my brother saying "I don't give a shit about others as long as I'm all right". Dad & Grandad must be spinning in their graves.

@SatanBurger as for meat processing, read Upton Sinclair's, The Jungle. The laws related to safety for workers and consumer go back that many years. The discussion about farming, both animal and other, is not to eliminate, but to refine so as to provide the products people want and do it efficiently and ecologically sound. There are plenty of sources about that. Medication safety, safe water, more breathable air, are all the result of hard fights to protect the people.
SatanBurger · 36-40, F
@samueltyler2 Thanks for the info but I know that history though the Jungle is worth looking into so thanks. I'm more asking what specific groups pushed for those laws at that specific time period that it happened and how we automatically know they were "hard" leftists or not.

Meaning, there has to be something in the news about the new warning labels on shampoo bottles going up during that time period or better regulations for the meat industry at that time period, so there has to be news somewhere that some politician or specific group was the first to install these regulations.

I'm not talking about books or history or philosophy.

As an example, I can look back in the news and see which politician voted for which law but I can't find which politician or group was responsible for instituting safety measures for farming or shampoo bottles.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@SatanBurger I can't give you an easy answer. There are people at OSHA, EPA, CPSC, they are not politically oriented, they are safety and environmental people.
MartinII · 70-79, M
Interesting story. Two points. First, not everyone would agree that all the things listed are necessarily good. For instance, the idea that all healthcare is free (not true, of course) seems pretty sick at the moment. Second, there is absolutely no BBC employee who would dare, and very few who would wish, to behave as the one in this story is imagined to have done. (Oh, and Keir Starmer a leftie? Not so sure about that.)
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@MartinII Starmer is more of a centrist yes but there are loads of tories at the bbc.

@SW-User Fair point. Im a remainer myself but I know several leftist who voted for Brexit. I also struggle to see Keir Starmer as the real deal.

@Burnley123 I wish you were right! I’ve never heard a radio or TV host on the BBC behave like the one in this story, and to be fair, it would be contrary to the BBC’s charter to do so.
