I'm Taking A Break From Feeling Shame For Being White This Weekend

June 6, 2020 is the 76th anniversary of D-Day - The Normandy landings were the landing operations and associated airborne operations on Tuesday, 6 June 1944 of the Allied invasion of Normandy in Operation Overlord during World War II. Codenamed Operation Neptune and often referred to as D-Day, it was the largest seaborne invasion in history.

Learning about this operation and some of the warriors that were part of it,
helps take my mind off the plight of persons today that don't feel properly appreciated.

The whole country pulled together. EVERYONE found ways they could help the country in the war effort. American ingenuity along with free market unleashed unheard of productivity to defeat our enemies.

Yeah, I think I'd rather think about how the greatest generation saved our country for us, so we could have a choice whether to burn it down today, or pull together again to save the country for our children.

I will never be bullied into feeling shame because of my skin color. Every one is responsible for their own actions, and no one else.

@Kwek00
"So it's the amount of punishment that decides what kind of descisions a person makes?"
You are over-generalizing my example. It needn't necessarily be punishment inflicted by other people, but any kind of unfavorable outcome. I don't smoke, for example, not because there is any law against smoking, but because I don't want to increase my chances of developing lung cancer five-fold, among other health risks.
"What if behavior doesn't have direct consequences, but is still harmfull if entire groups of people believe the behavior is okay.
Now we come to the question of short-term gain versus long-term good. With groups of people who violate the Golden Rule, we can usually follow the money and/or follow the political power that they hope to gain, or in fact do gain. And this is just as true of far-left ideologues as it is of Nazis.

Kwek00 · 41-45, M
@Thinkerbell I asked you
How is a person going to do that?
And you answered with one specific example 😅
So you didn't even answer the question then 😅

This part is just cray cray

Wrong. You have forgotten everything I said before and after my "one" example. There were two specific examples and two general statements relevant to "how is a person going to do that".

"...of course an intelligent person should be able to think one step beyond what his socialization (indoctrination?) might be telling him."

"For example, putting your knee on someone's neck until he dies is likely to get you in a lot of trouble. Even a dyed-in-the-wool racist should understand that, don't you think?"

"It needn't necessarily be punishment inflicted by other people, but any kind of unfavorable outcome."

"I don't smoke, for example, not because there is any law against smoking, but because I don't want to increase my chances of developing lung cancer five-fold, among other health risks."

Do you often have lapses like this? Perhaps you should see a neurologist.

excellent post. All Americans fought valiantly...from the Tuskegee Airmen to the 101st Airborne to MacArthur's raiders to those Rosy the Riveters who worked 12 hour shifts making the weapons and equipment for our troops to the everyday working American that had to do without pretty much everything and endure the unendurable...losing their loved ones to the war.
helensusanswift · 26-30, F
@Budwick Plenty Scots as well, not to mention Welsh, Irish and English.
MissTaken · 36-40, F
@Budwick More than 50% of the troops that landed on D Day were not American obviously including Canadians🙂
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@Budwick Three of my uncles went in on Juno Beach on D Day. They all survived the attack without a scratch. They fought their way 20 miles into Normandy before they realized the Americans and Brits were still on the beach. They turned around and got back to where the Brits and Americans had finally gained foot hold.

I never felt shame for being white.
JBird · F
@revenant only whites with in inferiority complex feel that😆
Synyster · 51-55, M
@revenant Me either.
revenant · F
@JBird well said
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
Nobody thinks you should be ashamed to be white.

Everyone thinks you should be ashamed for being an asshole.

🤣
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@Burnley123 Do you feel shame because from this angle you look like the south end of a northbound horse.
eli1601 · 70-79, M
@Burnley123 That's the spirit
Carla · 61-69, F
As soon as your dear leader has left the building and his cult go sulking away, I feel quite certain that we, as a nation, will begin to do what Americans do best. Stand together when faced with hardship and peril.
I felt it! 🤭 @Budwick
Budwick · 70-79, M
@DukeOfEarle I know! Me too!
It was sort of like that one day when my Mom had me wearing corduroys to school. I was 14. On the morning school bus ride, the ride was kind of ... jiggly. It felt kinda funny,... down there.

Same thing today~!
A certain “fizzy” sensation that made your heart go thumpity thump thump-thump? Yes. There are some very endearing people here that make me feel that same warm and fuzzy feeling too. 😂 @Budwick

Those who are ashamed of their race, ethnicity, etc...
Should damned well be ashamed of themselves.

Bravo Budwick 👏
luctoretemergo · 61-69, M
The greatest generation!......these guys gave their lives to defend the freedoms that some are now abusing under the guise of "social justice"....sadly ironic!
JBird · F
Being white is not a problem but being stupid arrogant prick is. And you should be ashamed for that. 😆
And this is how military people are treated now 🤔

@Budwick why does talking about social issues make you uncomfortable? Racism is a serious issue and if you cared about your black friends you would care. How would you feel if your black friend that you care about was killed due to some police officer unnecessarily taking their life?

I used to think racism wasn’t that common. Until I learned that every black friend I have has dealt with plenty of unnecessary racism throughout their life.

Budwick · 70-79, M
@MorbidCynic
why does talking about social issues make you uncomfortable?
Social issues don't make me feel uncomfortable.
This post is about D-Day.

When you go to a birthday party, is your topic of discussion racism?
How about when attending a funeral, or wedding, or shopping.

Did you know Breonna?
Or, is she someone you just heard about?

The friends I mentioned earlier are people I actually know, arrange to meet occasionally, spend time with, know their families. So, please take your racial social issues and stuff 'em where the Sun don't shine.
@Budwick No, but it can be a topic in every day conversation.

Smoke a good blunt and talk to your friends about current events.

You don’t have to know a person to feel empathy towards them.

Well I see my friends daily too lmao hell, my self proclaimed godparents are black 😂 it’s not like these people are some shmucks I met online. Some I knew since I was a little kid.

And look what you got now?! 🤦‍♀️

Budwick · 70-79, M
@Harriet03 That's your tribute to D-Day?
Harriet03 · 41-45, F
@Budwick You couldn't even tribute something as important & treasured as D-Day, without spoiling it with your bullshit spin.
Shame on you!!
Disgraceful.
i don’t feel any shame for being white.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
I have never been ashamed of my skin tone. It doesn't matter to me one way or the other. Its not like I can magically change it.

You goofball 🙄
Geez!!! Can't we all be part of one race for once??? I'm thinking of the human race - there... no skin color mentioned so nobody can start looting or rioting!!!
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@RedtheEmerald Right back at you snowflake.

I’ve never done anything to feel shame for being white and I come from a part of the country everyone thinks as being stereotypically racist.
Anyone that tries to shame you for the color of your skin is racist. @dommagic
SW-User
You should never apologise for being the race you are, it is not a battle of black versus white it is a battle against racism, all racism. Each man should be treated equally.

If a person should feel shame it should be for standing by and watching when they see such injustice.

Incidentally, it was not England, or the UK but it was the British Empire which meant the armed forces were made up of soldiers from India, Kenya, South Africa, Australia etc.... a great diversity of races that history books and Hollywood have whitewashed out.
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
Black veterans?
Kwek00 · 41-45, M
@Burnley123 Some, in segregated units.

If you want to use this as a symbol for pulling the country together:
The whole country pulled together.
it just means you have no idea what you are talking about.
I guess... He tried. 🤷‍♂️

It's also why the last A of MAGA, is so ridiculously cheap.
Yeah. I think I'm over due for a break myself. The stupidty has to stop, and since it doesn't appear to be, it's time to walk away and let them have it.
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
@PrivateHell This stupidity seems self-imposed. I don’t feel remotely bad about my pale complexion - and nobody expects me to either.
@QuixoticSoul I don't feel bad about mine either. The stupidity I am referring to is all the people on both sides acting as though they hold exclusive rights to the truth, and sitting in judgment of others without even bothering to hear a word being said. But as I just posted elsewhere, I'm done with it.

They left out the best part of that clip: When Pluskat is asked by his superior in what direction the ships are coming, he yells, "Auf mich zu! DIREKT!!" At me! DIRECTLY!!  🤭

@QuixoticSoul
Ironic how those most proud to be white are always the most worthless examples of it
This comment is worthy of its own post.

It’s rather weird that honoring D-Day vets would be used as a way to complain about folks who would like an equal share of the freedoms that were defended that day.
Budwick · 70-79, M
@JoeyFoxx
folks who would like an equal share of the freedoms
Seems to me the rioters and looters were looking for MORE than their fair share.

Despite all the whining, everyone has equal freedoms - although I am told I should be ashamed of my race. [I don't get that either.]
JoeyFoxx · 51-55, M
@Budwick I never mentioned the rioters and the looters.

My wife participated in an event recently. I’ve been working on connecting with local politicians.

I’ve already described to you stories about what my friends and colleagues of color have had to endure that prevent them from having access to freedoms in the same way you and I do.

In actuality, you spend far more time whining on SW than most other people I’ve witnessed. It’s ironic.
