In the 2016 election, did you want a third option?

SW-User
Yes. In fact, that’s how I voted. I have the luxury/curse of living in a perpetually uncontested state. In Illinois, the Democrat will always win the Presidential. The Democrat will always will the Senate seat. In my Congressional district, the Republican will always win my district. My vote could not be less important. Therefore, I have the luxury of looking at and voting for third party alternatives, because my vote is nothing more than an inconsequential statement at best.
@SW-User I try not to let it discourage me, and will always vote regardless, but my state is similar. It tends to vote strongly Democrat except in certain far North and Southern areas. Hillary won 85% of SF County, 80% of Alameda County, and 61% of the whole state, which like most states has a ‘winner take all’ policy with our 55 electoral votes.

Had I been in a state where every vote mattered, I would have very begrudgingly and without joy or glee, voted for her. I use a hierarchy of needs approach, and basic competence and stability is the first level that has to be cleared. Trump’s sheer ineptitude and incompetence renders any further consideration about positions and policies moot, because I don’t believe he’s even remotely competent, qualified, or stable enough to perform the most basic functions required for that job. Without being able to clear that bar, I can’t even get to the point where I’m doing a comparative analysis of other things. @bijouxbroussard

I voted for the 3rd option: Gary Johnson.

@SW-User We may not. I still miss Ross Perot RIP. Voted for him, too, way back when.

The GOP and Democrats have a stranglehold on the debate commission, so even if a future 3rd party candidate gains traction, those two have colluded to make sure those candidates and those ideas remain shut out. @EnigmaticGeek

@SW-User I know, and they call the PRC a totalitarian society...

This country has more political theater than reality news-wise.

Yes, I didn't like either. Let me edit this. I didn't want a third option, there were 4 or 5 on the ballot. I just wish we had two better options that had realistic chances of winning. I believe we elected the best that was available come election time.

Both major political parties failed. I know we could have done better. No third party splinter group has ever captured the interest of the American Public enough to do anything but splinter one party or the other's vote. Not even Teddy Roosevelt and his upstart Bull Moose Party could pull it off. He was arguably one of the finest presidents this nation ever had.

I'm kinda disappointed that Gary Johnson wasn't even in the running.
There is a third option, plenty more actually. People are just too afraid to choose them. Then they wonder why change doesn’t happen.
The forever unknown is whether Bernie might’ve beat Trump, or if those swing states would’ve fallen back on their anti-Semitism rather than their misogyny. 😒
I'm not American but yeah

@uncalled4 Maybe, but I’m still pissed off at people who think the racist sexual predator was “the better choice of two evils”. It felt like they were telling me, “I had to vote for the Klan candidate, but we’re still good, right ?” 😳

@bijouxbroussard I don't think higher politics are attractive to most virtuous people. There are exceptions, but usually it really is the truth. I couldn't be more cynical, or outright frightened.
