Who else was brought up a Christian, but now questions their spiritual journey?

I think you should believe in whatever you want, but don't use your religion to justify intolerance...

Why is it that the more religious someone purports to be, the more likely they are to interfere negatively in other people's lives?

This administration has really opened my eyes. They prefer condemnation to empathy.

Sure, this has been ongoing for centuries. The Holy Wars. Burning infidels and witches. The list is long and the deaths are many. Whose god wanted this? As with all criminal behavior, follow the money and you will find the god.

From the Inquisition to the GOP, religions are just excuses for people to band together, tell each other they are better than everyone else, and then persecute anyone they don't like. They are only interested in the dogma and control that comes from religion. They're definitely not interested in acting like Jesus, they just want an excuse to act like old testament God.

I never thought I would find the word "Christian" repulsive and dangerous.
But that is where I am now.

The far right hijacked, ate up and spit out Christianity. Christianity is dead, it’s just a hate group now.

At 21, I have checked out of religion. I just believe in being a good person and treating others as I would want to be treated (includes animals). Simple yet so hard for certain others.😔
Opposite for me. I grew up not knowing our beloved God. Once I became an adult I learned about him and fell in love with him. My faith and love for him gets stronger each day. Maybe you need to drop religion and get to know God for yourself.

I was raised Christian but no longer believe in organized religion. God loves everyone and only the most evil people go to hell. Gays and lesbians don't go to hell just for being gay or lesbian.

I was born to second generation Italians...you don't get more religious than that...at 9 I knew it was hosshit

I'm the other way, I was brought up anything but Christian, but now I am. Although I am not at all the perfect one. I still question things, and I am quite open where others are more to the book.
We all have our walk with God, and how that looks is between you and God.
Religion is not to feel better than others, read the words of Jesus, He said many things that are actually the opposite of that, and He chastised the authorities for being that way. We are told not to judge, but to treat everyone as our neighbour, to be a servant, and to care for those who cant care for themselves.
We are a messy bunch, and people will be people, and some use any group to advance their own agenda, not just religious ones.
About interfering, that's again a personal misunderstanding of what we are supposed to act like.
We all should practise tolerance, make room for everyone, as no one is perfect, we all have battles, and we are all in this world together.
We may as well try to help each other smile as there is enough hardship just trying to survive.
* hugs you

I just hope there is a after life. is scary thinking there is nothing when we die. 😺

@bijouxbroussard jesus was written down less then a century after he was born. so any fraud was by jesus and his disciples themselves. or in the early writers of his life. supposedly his apostles wrote some of the accounts. dead sea scrolls are pretty close to the bible and were written then lost for almost 2 thousand years.
@trackboy Alrighty, I think we’re having two different conversations...

@bijouxbroussard we are?????

I was raised as a Christian, fell away from the faith as a young adult and while still having belief in God, it was on the back burner. As I got older, I started coming back to the faith. My faith and belief is stronger now than it was as a child. I don't think it is fair to blame God for things done at the command of men, and I think some things could be justified. Some of the crusades for example, the Muslims were conquering others to expand their faith. I travelled to southern France for work, in walking around Bayonne, I noticed that all of the old bridges has parapets with archer windows and at one time the whole city was walled. In discussing it with a native, he explained that most of the city's old fortifications were put in place to defend against attacking Muslim armies. After the fact, men decided to figure out a way to make money from the crusades and some things they did were just wrong, the same can be said of the witch trials or the inquisition. Jesus said "love your neighbor as yourself." I can love my neighbor but not agree with what he is doing. I have friendly relationships with other Christians, Catholics, even a few Muslims. I don't have to agree with them to treat them as a human being. The mistakes man has made will be answered for in the end. Those who made the mistake will have to atone for them.

I was raised Catholic, and later changed religion, and now I walk my own path.

Just keep in mind that other groups tend to be just as closedminded and subject to pack mentality. Everybody subscribes to different groups because they believe that the group aligning with their values is better than others

Almost a complete reversal for me. Grew up atheist became Christian and my Faith and Spirituality have only deepened over time.

Was raised Catholic and now I’m atheist.

Sounds like you're just as religious as ever but don't want to be associated with a church. Which is fair. You don't need a church to be religious and you don't need a priest to find enlightenment. Good luck on your new religious path

it was just decided in the 21th century that religion is bullshit and we all came from monkeys because science told us
OlderDude · 61-69, M
@SW-User so, your religion is science. As you believe that because some scientists said it's so, and I belive Otherwisw because the bible said it's so.
Who's right?
Cant really prove either faith as the right one.
So let's stop slamming each other, and go grab a beer and enjoy the afternoon!

I think it’s natural and healthy to question ones spirituality ... only dogmatic Christians would argue against it. Life of a journey, explore.

Jesus authored the New Testament in his blood. I take his Word on truth.
I am not Republican.
No party defines Jesus.

I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ.

Religion is imperfect.I believe in God not religion.
MartinTheFirst · 22-25, M
Oh no, you sound intolerant, and you're truly acting a negative part in my life right now.
curiosi · 61-69, F
So worldly and only 21! 😆🤣
JovialPlutonian · 36-40, M
Spot on! 👉.
I guess I’d qualify. I don’t consider myself religious at all now, and I was brought up Catholic via school, Mass, the whole nine yards. And most groups are pretty misogynistic in their doctrine, the pious are unkind and prejudiced. There is nothing in organized religion (as its most vocal proponents represent it) that would make it palatable to me.

Was raised Christian, now Agnostic Pantheist leaning more and more towards Zoroastrianism
Quite right. And I'm perfectly fine with atheism being used to justify intolerance
