Is war with Iran part of Trump's re-election strategy ?

Possibly. Americans have been starting wars with countries they can't find on a map for decades for no real reason and no plan. What could go wrong? More then anything it is Johnny "let's start a war with everyone" Bolton's wet dream.
@RodionRomanovitch Sadly I agree and it would be an unmitigated disaster.
RodionRomanovitch · 56-60, M
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow As was Iraq and , incredibly , Bolton is still unrepentant about his role in that fiasco.
@RodionRomanovitch Interesting you mentioned Iraq since the people in charge there now and the majority of the people are moving closer to Iran. A US war with Iran would almost certainly unify the former rivals against the US.
BlueVeins · 22-25
No, probably not. War with Iran would be political suicide; the Iraq War is still seared into the memory of this godforsaken country.
RodionRomanovitch · 56-60, M
@BlueVeins I'm not so sure about that. For one , it would be overwhelmingly popular with his base and secondly , a majority of Americans already see Iran as an enemy and will always rally behind a President in time of war.

It's an option.

Despite his campaign promises to the contrary, he's executing a neocon strategy, on steroids.

He has given Iran, and the "region's" countries, that do not fall under Sunni Islam's dictatorship/royal banner, a simple choice: go back to the way things were immediately following WWII, or your regimes will be turned over to people who will accept it.

We may thing that Trump is a bully, but that's because we were not alive right after WWII, when we thought of that part of the world, as a source of oil, and the people were disposable.

All that human rights talk? bullshit and feeds his base's Islamophobia.

What Pompeo did, a couple of days ago, is go to Iraq, to remind them that we can fuck them up pretty good, if they supported Iran, in the upcoming confrontation.

Iran is key, because it's the only country, that can lend Palestinians support, when the Kushner, aka Trump family graft plan, AKA, the Middle East Peace Plan, is put into motion. I read some additional details, in a pro-Trump Israeli paper, a few days ago, and these folks are ecstatic.
RodionRomanovitch · 56-60, M
@Northwest The thing is though , Kushner's 'greatest deal' is going to be dead on arrival. There is simply no way the Palestinians are going to have anything to do with it whatsoever. So what happens next .... with Israeli and Saudi support are they simply going to impose it uopn them ? Some Arab nations who have been susceptible to US bribery thus far aren't going to wear that , surely ?

And where exactly does the administration see this frightening escalation with Iran ending up ? Are they really prepared to start another war in the region when they are still involved in three others or do they somehow think that Iran is just going to lie down and suddenly acquiesce to all their demands , whatever they are ... because I'm not entirely sure what they are ; surrender , regime change .... what ?

This whole thing is just some kind of fantasy and it it will end in disaster more likely than not.

@RodionRomanovitch Were any of these presumptions different, when we started the war with Iraq? You can play around with some of the names, or specifics, but the 75K foot view, remains the same. Yet, we did go to war, and we ended up with a disaster, with a bonus of turning Europe back toward Nationalism (and the US, and Australia).

Shit happens. I am hoping though, that he will not get it past Congress. Though a "Gulf on Tonkin" scenario is always a possibility, even if all eyes are on you. I'm sure some idiotic Mullah, with enough provocation, can gift wrap it for Trump and the neocons.

If it involves drama, hate, and being a victim (in that order) it is part of his re-election strategy. Those are the three elements his core supporters (and reality TV show watchers and fans of professional wrestling) thrive on.

It seems to me that when a president loses credibility...HE needs to create a war
RodionRomanovitch · 56-60, M
@Fernie Quite apart from the fact that this clown never had any credibility to begin with , he would also be reneging on his 'America first' promise were he to go get the US embroiled in another unnecessary war.
Fernie · F
@RodionRomanovitch has America ever NOT been at war? It's government welfare...extremely profitable for many
Carla · 61-69, F
My thoughts, very possibly. I think he and bolton both have itchy fingers, and we seem to re elect a war time potus.
RodionRomanovitch · 56-60, M
@Carla Yep , you can easily see the appeal of that to a President who can't get his approval ratings beyond the mid-forties.
Carla · 61-69, F
@RodionRomanovitch if all else fails....shoot!
If that is on his 'game' plan then who's going to stop him ?
Northwest · M
@softspokenman Yeah, he said that, and I'm sure the Generals laughed it off. I keep clinging to the hope, as demonstrated by the Mueller report, that some of the underlings, will not obey orders. Of course he can claim that they never disobey him, but they testified, under oath that they did, and he's too ADHD, dumb, or both, to realize it.

In the words of Rex Tillerson, he's a fucking moron.

@Northwest In the words of just about everyone , friend and foe alike.

I hope not. Even if it is, I don’t think people are that naïve to agree with that strategy.

@RodionRomanovitch ..... or maybe you can't. Thanks anyway for the illuminating insights you have brought to our debate. They have been invaluable , really.
strongbow · 46-50, M
@RodionRomanovitch lol..there is no 'debate' you're a Trumping hatein liberal with no common sense... and how fitting that you quoted your own idiotic crap which offers no 'illuminating insights' 😅
RodionRomanovitch · 56-60, M
@strongbow There is a debate going on here , just not with you , as you appear totally incapable of it. But you could always try and prove me wrong , without using memes or emojis preferably.(They only serve to reinforce your idiocy.)
