Have you always held similar political opinions or have you gone through large changes during your life?

I have found that I have taken a pretty hard left. In 2008 I identified as libertarian and associated with some of the Ron Paul crowd. A little more than 10 years later I'm much closer to anarcho-communism. Its been a pretty stark change.

I used to identify as a conservative then I grew up and realized that we all have a resposibilty to care for each other and that a civilization is based upon how we treat the most vulnerable of its members. Jesus Christ himself was socialistic. Greed is a 1-way ticket to hell. I consider myself a Social-Democrat

@DonHobag yeah, those conservative Jesus memes are pretty hilarious though...
DonHobag · M
@ViciDraco They are indeed. I bet Jesus had a good hardy chuckle, too😂
I’ve always been a liberal. I was a bit of a hippie back in the 70s. I had only evolved in terms of coming to believe we could work within the system to improve things. Now I feel like we have to fight the system again to keep things from regressing.
ViciDraco · 36-40, M
@bijouxbroussard feel the same, really. We're definitely regressing. Losing rights, income inequality not seen since the gilded age.

I've always been socially liberal and fiscally conservative. That hasn't changed much over life. However, the entire US has shifted over the past 30-40 years to the right side of the political spectrum, so my static views are now considered much more liberal than they were back then.
Xuan12 · 31-35, M
Started out fairly mainstream republican. Then the GOP went insane. I'm considered left now. Personally I've become more conservative, but not in ways that US politics are sensitive too.
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@Xuan12 The whole country has become more conservative, so if you were middle of the road or slightly on the conservative side in the 1970s and 1980s, you are on the liberal side of the spectrum now.
Xuan12 · 31-35, M
@windinhishair Yeah, most the ways in which I've changed aren't really topics of debate though, so it doesn't really factor in.
CountScrofula · 41-45, M
I was a democratic socialist as a teen but moved into anarchism in my 20s and have remained solidly there since.
ViciDraco · 36-40, M
@CountScrofula leaning towards com or cap? I ask since both sides try to claim to be the natural form of anarchism ( I tend to side with com, as private property seems inherently anti-anarchic to me )
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
If a person isn't a liberal when they are 20 they have no heart. If a person is not a conservative by the time they are 40 they have no brain. I have a heart and a brain.
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@hippyjoe1955 So you had a heart when you were 20, but now you have brains and are heartless, because you're no longer a liberal.
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
@windinhishair After watching joe attempt to defend his bizarre views on science for a couple of years, I don't think he has any brains left either.
DonHobag · M
@windinhishair Wait until he's 65 and he needs those bennies. The circle of life

I've stayed pretty close to the same my whole life
I went from Tory to communist.
I used to be a lefty.. long time ago.. they got too nutty
ViciDraco · 36-40, M
@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout US Lefty or Global Lefty? Needs be asked as most of the US left is still globally right wing.
I was a walking human version of the song imagine.

Thought a fantasy brand of socialism was a good idea.. @ViciDraco
