This Brett Kavanaugh confirmation thing is really turning into a train wreck, isn't it?

SimplyTracie26-30, F
Trump should ask the justice department to investigate these allegations. I鈥檓 sure Trump does not want a sexual predator sitting on this lands highest court.
redredredM
@SimplyTracie Trump should nominate Hillary so he can finally get the FBI to investigate her
QuixoticSoul41-45, M
@redredred That would be amazing regardless of how it turned out 馃槀馃槀馃槀
SimplyTracie26-30, F
@redredred Make that suggestion to Trump. I鈥檒l wait for his tweet. I can鈥檛 wait to see what he thinks of that idea. 馃槀馃槀馃槀
Graylight51-55, F
The right thing for the Republicans to do now would be to cut bait. There are plenty of conservative judges to be heard from. Nominees who haven't been questioned about gambling habits, haven't used confidential information inappropriately and then lied about it, haven't been accused of sexual misconduct.

The SCOTUS is already conservative in majority, though why it's politicized I'll never know. I also can't understand why the rabidly tenacious grip on this one nominee except that he's on record as saying a sitting president is immune to indictment. Time for both sides to move on.
@Graylight How many other candidates have written on executive immunity?

Im certain this is why they're doubling down, and struggling with POTUS mightily about it.
whowasthatmaskedman70-79, M
Or maybe it is actually doing its job. This is an appointment to the highest peoples court in the land. Regardless of your political bias, don't you want only the unquestionably best people on it? Now lets see how the committee answers that question..
Mysti51-55, F

Not to mention, you, pushing the argument that the Democratic Party of 2018, is in any way, shape, substance, or form, has a resemblance to the DixieCrats of the 1950s, shows your intelligence level.
Ummmmm Clarence Thomas and Herman Cain were both accused this same way.
Clarence Thomas was accused of rape, by the Southern White Democrats, and his house burnt down? Never heard of it. But, please share the details.

Last I heard, it was a black attorney, Anita Hill, who accused him of sexual harassment.

As to Herman Cain, I think you're confused. The mistress who sued him, is Ginger White, but alas, she's actually black.
That wasn't the fifties
stupid ass
.
Really?
I'm not worried about your idiotic thoughts on intellect.
I agree. Intellect, clearly, is the least of your worries.
You should be more worried about your total obsession with The President of the United States. In other words get a life.
This is really my favorite Trumpster reply. Complain about posts, exposing the truth, when you can't see all the time you spend on SW, defending his bad behavior. Hypocrisy.
Problem is the insidiousness of the democrats has created a dynamic where once anything becomes hard copy, it doesn't matter how ridiculous it is. It does serious damage to whoever they want to destroy. They can pay all kinds of slime balls to come out of the woodwork and say all kinds of crazy things, and no matter how nuts it is, it has the desired effect . Anyone who has not renounced the 'demoncrat' party is complicit in their crimes.
@puck61 My own experiences tend to confirm your research on ickyness in the democratic party.

But it doesn't tend to bother me quite as much when the Republicans have gone beyond mere ickiness into obscenity and perversion.
@MistyCee I was trying to lighten things up a bit, but I disagree. I believe the dems are creating hard copy with complete disregard to honor and ethics. These ridiculous accusations by flibbertigibbets against Kavanaugh, are just one of a multitude of crimes committed by democrat politicians and 'some' of their constituents. Dishonor and deceit have become the staple and mainstay of the democrat party.
[@puck61flibbertigibbets, I like that.

I don't know how ridiculous these allegations are, and I'm not really going to defend Democratic strategy on this one, other than to say that this move is really difficult for Republicans to deal with, given who's in the White house.

Its sad, for sure, that we're here.
CopperCicadaM
It was going to be a freak show from the onset. Then Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell flat out and explicitly stated that the Senate would block any SCOTUS appointment of President Obama. Didn't matter who. What do people expect. To play hard ball and then expect bunnies and bubbles when they're in power? What I don't get is why President Trump didn't pick any number of pro-life conservative jurists who wouldn't have had these problems.
CopperCicadaM
@MistyCee I get why Trump like's Kavanaugh. But it was executive power that was a criticism of Obama by conservatives, and of Bush and Obama by progressives.
jackjjackson61-69, M
Excellent points CC. @CopperCicada
@CopperCicada Yup. Trump is no ideologue, and while there are plenty of judges with conservative views, very few have spoken out on this issue.
Heartlander80-89, M
Thanks to Dianne Feinstein, I have a better understanding of how Adolph Hitler rose to power. It wasn't just Adolph Hitler but team Nazis and their collusion with the German media that cleared out all opposition to the Nazis.

Team Democrat is absolutely frightening.
@Heartlander The 'democrat party' has become just another wacko fringe group, but this particular wacko fringe group has a lot of momentum behind it for now. Hopefully enough people are paying attention and hopefully having some 'moments of introspection' to bring about the needed 'paradigm shift'. I don't see how anyone would want to be called a democrat after the last year and three quarters. They are every bit as obviously evil as any other 'obviously evil' group.
TexChikF
Not really . It just shows how little the libs respect the law , common decency, or moral values . If the Republicans acquiesce, that鈥檚 the disaster. It鈥檚 time to push back and act like they and not a political activist run the senate .
TexChikF
@JoeyFoxx Libtards are all about nonsense. Trump made that statement 3 years before he ever ran, in a locker room .., with other men . Big deal ! You libs are such petty snowflakes and whiners . And , if you look at all his women throughout his life ... they were all stunning.
JoeyFoxx51-55, M
Just so we are clear... so long as he has a hot wife, you鈥檙e ok with him assaulting women?

I still don't get why the Republicans wouldn't pull the Kavanaugh nomination. Surely there are other pro-life, Federalist, right-wing judges who are not morally and ethically compromised and who would be suitable as nominees? Why him?
JollyLilyF
@Johnson212 Yes, I did consider it. And the way I view it is that this nomination and the hearing are simply for a job, not a part of a criminal proceeding. 鈥淚nnocent until proven guilty isn鈥檛 a standard expected at a job interview. I can tell you that if I was interviewing someone and multiple women told me that a while back this person had sexually assaulted/harassed them, I would just hire someone else who was just as qualified but not accused by multiple women. So yeah, I don鈥檛 understand why we have to lower hiring practice standards for Supreme Court justices.

Johnson21261-69, M
@JollyLily No, it is was simply for a job this information would have been brought out in July when the Democrats found out about it and the prospective job employee could have been asked about it during his extensive questioning about his filling that job. Instead Democratic politicians kept this information secret up until the 11 1/2 hour so they could let it out at the last minute to disrupt the proceedings.

eveything trump does turns into a train wreck
@Graylight You damn skippy!. I hate the people who are destroying the country that I love and served.
This sums it up nicely. This is "what is bothering me".......

puck61 路 56-60, M
The depressing reality that the biggest threat my country has ever faced is half of it's population. I see it as being at least as bad or worse than the pre-civil war dynamic. The demographic of evil is not concentrated in one particular section , but in the larger cities and on the east and west coasts. I feel like Donald Sutherland's character in the 78 version of "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" It's a grim prospect to basically see every 'other' fellow citizen as the potential object of the deepest darkest loathing I have ever experienced in my life. I was paying attention and I served during the peak of the "cold war" and I never saw the "Red Horde" as being a threat that was anything close to the social cancer that I see and hear around me every day. It's real to me, and it sucks.
I knew that my 'Norman Rockwell' world was passing away, but I didn't realize until recently that it was being wholesale slaughtered and razed to the ground by what I figuratively see as the minions of Satan and the promoters of all that I hate and despise with every fiber of my being.
JoeyFoxx51-55, M
@puck61 it is unfortunate that you believe that everyone who isn鈥檛 a dyed in the wool Republican thinks homogeneously (and also by inference that all Republicans think homogeneously). I assure you, this isn鈥檛 the case.

I know many vets who are dyed in the wool Democrats.

What you describe above is a myopic view of the world that there are only two ways of thinking. I assure you, there is not.

In my estimation, Obama was the 2nd worst President we have ever had, topped only by Mr Trump. I also believe the DC Republicans are obstructionists and the Democrats are whiners.

One think for sure, as much as I hated Ted Kennedy鈥檚 politics, I miss his ability to bring both sides together, leveraging his long time friendship with Orrin Hatch to create compromise legislation that kept things moving.

Mitch McConnell cannot do this, neither can Nancy Pelosi.

It鈥檚 ironic that Red states complain about social policies when Red states actually get more Federal money than they contribute. If it were not for mild wealth distribution, Red states would implode under their own weight.

No system is perfect. You, my friend, are no better than the left wing radicals who claim that Republicans are the scourge of the earth.

Have you considered having an open conversation with someone that has a different perspective than your own?
jackjjackson61-69, M
At the very least there is another witness to hear. As of now it鈥檚 a credibility contest. In my opinion, if another accuser comes forward with something more than a bald unsupported allegation Kavanaugh鈥檚 name should be withdrawn from consideration.
Rutterman46-50, M
Pretty much.

@jackjjackson That works, too. Might be easier for the FBI to fan out, though, then perhaps some of those can testify. However, getting any death threats for just being a witness seems somehow unfair. Regardless, Mitch wants a vote ASAP.
jackjjackson61-69, M
Is Mitch afraid the dems might control the Senate? It鈥檚 a shame politics trumps (no pun intended) all. Had Feinstein given the republicans the letter when she got it, they would have switched out Kavanaugh for someone younger maybe even a woman and he or she would hve been confirmed and we wouldn鈥檛 be reading and hearing this partisan nonsense. @SW-User
SW-User
@jackjjackson I would be concerned so yes, I think that is why he is rushing it. Mitch has no interest in playing fair, so yeah...

It was a train wreck from the start.

How the hell can Repubs justify holding back 100,000 documents that speak of Kavanaugh's past and release a further 40,000ish the night before the hearings started?

It's beyond all credibility.
katielassF
She's lying, it never happened.
jackjjackson61-69, M
I don鈥檛 t know. You make good points. Maybe women only should judge her credibility after she testifies? I鈥檓 being serious men have never been in that position. What would men know? @katielass
katielassF
@jackjjackson I think unless you want to be like the dumbos you might want to start with the presumption of innocence. Could be you in his shoes one day.

@Johnson212 1. I don't say anything. The news has implied Renate Alumnus refers to a woman.
2. There are three accusers. Ford, Deborah Ramirez and an unnamed accuser represented by Michael Avenatti.
Johnson21261-69, M
@Graylight The porn star's lawyer has an accuser who is anonymous and has not accused anyone yet why am I not surprised. She has something to say she needs to go the the committee and say it under oath or shut up, bunch of liars is all.
Graylight51-55, F
@Johnson212 She has accused someone - Kavanaugh. Her name will also be known to the public within the next 48 hours. They expect her to testify under oath Within the next week.

And calling Avenatti a "pornstar lawyer" does nothing except make you look small.
