Why would a judge order $ 20,000 bail for 5 Islamic radicals that were arrested at the New Mexico compound starving and training children to preform

School shootings!!!!!
PeacefulF Best Comment
*signature bond, which means they do not have to put up any money to get out. Just promise they will show up to court.

This judge is known to set low bail for violent offenders.

Reading your conservative blog again ? Would you be less outraged if the judge had been a Republican ? How was your march Sunday ?

We don't. Negotiate. With terrorists. @bijouxbroussard

I get compassion, but thinking you're so bright you're going to actually wipe out evil by sitting and talking with evil, reasoning with hate personified, is so foolish, and totally the pendulum swinging the other way!

Obama wanted to be "sympathetic" to their qualms. You can't reason with garbage nonsense!

Muslims have been persecuted, just as Christians have. I actually EMPATHIZE with them. What I DON'T understand is pussyfooting around terrorist murderers like you can "be the change" for them because you hold office. (Oh, Yes, we can!)

They hated him, AND his office!

He traded terrorists for Americans. Terrorists who will potentially kill thousands more than the few lives saved by trading. So wrong!

So, "god damn America". Damn our ability to protect.

If that line lf thinking is okay, we're seriously screwed.

(I believe in vetting, but our current guy is just so over the top about it.)

@KayraJordyn America is protecting nobody right now, and hasn't for a long time.

Stop with the foolishness of seeing America as a father/parent. I think Europe/Canada have been doing okay establishing co-operation. We might naturally as we don't try to antogonize and understand our histories together. So it's an even trade agreement without one seeing one as better.

@KayraJordyn I'm curious about this since I see my feed just dominated by this thread.

Coming from the position of someone who does not support Republicans or Democrats, Obama is not the bleeding heart you take him for. He is very much responsible for many horrific acts of violence. His strategy was just more of drones and bombs than sending in troops, but it still meant many innocent civilians have died. Cheered on wildly by left and right wing media. See how Libya or Yemen is doing right now, and then think about how kind Obama was to Muslims.

The problem of Islamic terrorism is a direct result of western policy in the Middle East with three decades of nonstop bombing and a century of kingmaking and looting back to when Churchill got out his crayons and started drawing borders. I don't know the solution, but it's not more of that.

What makes this story important, I think, is that although I don't see any evidence these people are plotting mass deaths (just accusations from prosecution), there's a desperate need to see them as such. We WANT them to be terrorists.

1. The primary suspect (Saraj Wahhaj), the primary suspect, was NOT granted b ail.

2. His wife, was handed over the ICE, and not granted bail.

3. Bail for the remaining adult defendants, was set at $20K each. So far, none have made bail.

4. The judge was elected by 80% of voters. She was originally appointed to the bench, by Republican Governor Susana Martinez.

5. If they were indeed held on a "signature bail", why are they still in jail, waiting for their bail to be paid out?

There's quite a bit more to this case, than Fox & Friends' sensationalism, amplified by the usual suspects. While one or two of the defendants, may identify as Muslim (though this is not certain), the rest seem to include one French Canadian (Saraj's wife), and at least one more, who identify as part of a Christian cult. From the Prosecution's statement:
Prosecutors alleged the family came to New Mexico to prepare for Abdul-Ghani's return as Jesus. The family believed Leveille received messages from God through the angel Gabriel, FBI agent Travis Taylor testified.

One of those messages was for the family to go to New Mexico, where Morten had property, and to continue rituals that began in Georgia to expel demons from Abdul-Ghani's body.

The boy suffered from seizures, requiring constant care and medical attention, his mother, Hakima Ramzi, previously told CNN. After a trip to Saudi Arabia in October 2017, Siraj Wahhaj said he wanted to stop giving his son medication and perform rituals to "cast demonic spirits" out of his son's body, Ramzi told investigators, according to prosecutor John Lovelace.
Facts do matter, but it seems to me, having reading a bit more of what actually happened in court, and the evidence presented by both sides, that the gray zone is rooted in religious freedom, especially given the wide variety of religion sects that call New Mexico home.

Not a political issue.

She was out to prove she's not islamophobic I guess. Too bad she couldn't prove she had a brain.

Because no excessive bail, no big deal really since these aren't rich guys that can just cough up 20k and be a flight risk

I鈥檓 not going to get all that bothered by this until one of them actually skips bail.
QuixoticSoul41-45, M
@katielass Charges for terrorism or extremism would change the picture too. But so far nothing.

I have no love for religious fuckwits of any stripe, anyone who thinks faith healing is a good idea should be launched into the sun. But that doesn鈥檛 always mean they鈥檙e an imminent flight risk.

Bail is a guarantee of appearance at future proceedings. Several factors are taken into account. Level of violence (the 'school shooting" thing is the account of one foster parent who 'heard' her charge mention it), financial means, likelihood of fleeing and possible accomplices.

20K seems low, but it must have been set in agreement with the state as well as the defense.

I don't know man. The world is all screwy. We're de-evolving, essentially. Violence + sociopathocollatoralism is normalised. What do you think, will crazy events even emotionally effect people in like 1/2 a decade?
Maybe the hard-time can go to those who offend somebody in the slightest.

@KayraJordyn Nah! I might have my observations and criticisms, it's for me if I choose to be here (you know I know that). I do remember a time on something called newsgroups, and IRC, where the internet was relatively new that wasn't quite as dramatic as here. I bring that up, as so many say anonymity, makes people disrespectful or crude; yes it may play a part

Then how in the 90s, I didn't see that?
