I need to entertain my somewhat lonely cat.

Her playmate left with my partner and I get the feeling she's lonely but also I know she'd lose her shit if a kitten/other cat were introduced to the household. It's a strange situation.
So, I need suggestions about games I can play with her. I'm all ears.

I have little spring-like stuffed toys on elastic on all the doorknobs. I roll balls of yarn and leave them around because he likes to pretend he is killing them. When it is late at night and he is most active, I play with the laser light....and at Christmas he went insane with the Star Showers laser light. I buy little packages of fake mice at the dollar tree...he likes those...and I keep a spray bottle of catnip and every two or three days I spray one of his toys.

@4meAndyou I didn't know nip came in spray form. And I like the toys attached to doorknobs idea..

@Cavedweller Believe it or not I got those doorknob toys on Publisher's Clearing House. What can I say? I was bored...LOL!!! Pet Smart has the catnip spray...keep your kitty high and she won't feel so bad..🐱

@Cavedweller Oh...and don't forget to let her dress up if she wants to...LOL!!!

I'd start with a laser dot to know how much energy and spirit she got.
Cavedweller · 46-50, F
@YMITheWayIM she's chock full of energy. She catches flies and grasshoppers with great enthusiasm.

cats are surprisingly adaptive when a new cat is introduced. I'd adopt a younger(not kitten) cat and give her some time to adjust. Nothing worse than a lonely, unstimulated cat. I have done this many times and it always worked out
Cavedweller · 46-50, F
@Fernie I really think she's a one human cat. She's incredibly jealous of other people, in a weird possessive way.
Fernie · F
@Cavedweller but you said she is lonely...I'm confused

Cats lose their shit with a new cat - till they figure out a balance between the two cats. I bet she is lonely. I've seen cats become unbearable when their buddies leave for whichever reason.
Cavedweller · 46-50, F
@hlpflwthat she's really vocal about being upset. It's kind of heartbreaking to hear. That coupled with her constant "checking" all the rooms. I don't know if she's still looking for her little friend.

I always thought 2 cats would be too much litter box(and trouble) till I had two. They're just a lot happier with a companion - and understandably so.

My cat's favorite thing is these foam balls about the size of ping pong balls... she'll chase them all day and loves to play fetch with them.
Cavedweller · 46-50, F
@dumpstermeow I've got a couple of plastic balls with bells inside, they keep her briefly amused.

@Cavedweller my cat needs toys she can pick up with her mouth. It has been a huge trial and error to find what she likes.
Cavedweller · 46-50, F
@dumpstermeow hopefully I'll find the right game or toy for her. She's really fond of catnip, and gets awfully playful when she's been rubbing in it.

Nerf darts. I bought mine these cute little things that cost half a fortune, and all she wanted was my kid's Nerf darts.

Those little treat trap balls work well, too; keeps them motivated.

My brothers cat loved a little mouse on a stick and tried catching it all day long if you teased him with it.
Cavedweller · 46-50, F
@RainbowSprinkles that's a great idea. Maybe I could attach a catnip mouse to the end of a stick or rod.
BaxtersMomma · 61-69, F
@Cavedweller I bought a "fishing pole" at PetSmart where I could cast a mouse out into the room and then reel it in. Dad's cat LOVED it.

Laser pointer. Cats LOVE em to death!!😁😁😁
Cavedweller · 46-50, F
@PeanutsauntieP1982 where could I obtain a laser pointer?
PeanutsauntieP1982 · 41-45, F
Pet stores, sometimes grocery stores will have them where the pet supplies are, and electronics stores too.
Fernie · F
@PeanutsauntieP1982 not all cats pay attention to lasers...mine ignores it and catnip bores her to death

katnip toy!
Cavedweller · 46-50, F
@sighmeupforthat she does love the nip!
