on a 31 december evening we went hunting
wild hares
redneck style
7 of us got into an old ford escort
dogs and all
the driver was my dad and he also worked the search lamp
imagine that
changing gears and steering and the lamp
we drove it like it had no brakes
there was shooting like crazy
and back then I wondered how
one can do that with the town not far away
through that desert and semi desert we drove that car
bumped our heads on the car roof
fell off the seats
then there in the desert the car failed on us
at midnight/new year
we entered the desert town by running next to/pushing the vehicle
through the empty streets back home
my little brother the only one in the car ..steering

Hands down - my father's funeral in Pennsylvania - just after we all got back to the house we were surrounded by cop cars and sirens - there to arrest my brother for murder.
(He didn't murder anyone. At a traffic stop, he 'reasoned' that it would be good to lie about his name - so he gave a false last name and his real first name. Put 'em all together & what's that spell? The name of a guy from California wanted for murder.)

My daughters birthday party... there was a total stranger annoying my brother in law... my brother in law told him to shut up. It was weird they almost got into a fight at my daughters bday party! When she was turning 4. It made me never want to celebrate together again!

It has to be our family summer Birthday party at the bungalow. Always a wild time and it does get some craziness going on out there.

Nothing ever beat those awkward barbecues following a night where we had been called to that same home to protect my sister in law from the violent anger of my brother. Especially the time he made a passing attempt at a joke about how he鈥檇 threatened to beat her head in with a frying pan and bury her in the garden. They both laughed. Dysfunctional doesn鈥檛 even cover it.
