I Am A Fireman

While I will never trade one day, one minute of my experience as a firefighter, there are times when my job makes my heart ache.
Last night as I entered a house, I could hear screaming upstairs. Running to the second floor I entered a room engulfed in flames and found a beautiful little girl, maybe 9 or 10 years old hiding in the corner. As I picked her up and wrapped her in my coat I could see that her little legs had been burned badly, and her cries as I carried her back down the steps and outside,.. well..the are still ringing in my ears this morning.
People say seconds dont matter, tell that to this little girl.
...
Wishing I could have been just a few seconds faster. Thank you SW for allowing me to vent.

So here's an update if anyone's interested. My new little girlfriend (as she calls herself) is now out of danger. Her infections are gone and she is now working on getting her skin grafts done...then more physical therapy. I only wish everyone in this world had the same fight and spirit as this little girl does. There will never be anything in this world that will hold her back, I got another hug as I left the hospital today. I am smiling so big, she is celebrating Father's Day today with her dad...makes me see what's important even better now.

First responders see things the general public can’t begin to imagine. Running to what everyone else is running from is heroic. Thank you for your service.

Thanks for sharing and helping put things into perspective for all of us. You saved her life. Take comfort in that. She will mend and will have a chance at living a good life because you showed up when you did.
