I Hate My Country

i just read about a hospital in the city of Almeria (South-Eastern Spain) where patients must wait up to three months to go through cancer treatments, but now they may choose halal and kosher menus too.

Life is a matter of priorities. It is obvious what the priorities are in this case.

Why stop at kosher or halal? If they want to go down this road, they should also provide meals for vegetarians, meals for vegans, meals for those who observe an organic diet, those who insist on eating gluten-free diets, etc etc. There's no end to it, is there? Wait, is this a restaurant or a hospital, I forgot.

They say it is a hospital. They say where I work is a school too although it often looks like a recreation center.

@Cierzo: understand so much. Mine looks like a community club too- with all the social gatherings and the noise but so little intellectual engagement.

Perhaps withholding halal and kosher menus would not have improved cancer treatment waiting times. At least it's a small improvement for some service users. I.e. they can eat when they're in hospital.

I don't know how much is the extra cost of those menus, but being the situation so extreme, I think every cent must be spent in saving lives. Then you offer all the different kinds of menu you want.

@Cierzo: I read something online which pointed out that the uk govt can't afford police, but it can afford tax cuts for the rich. That's what corruption looks like my friend.

@JaggedPrincess: This is the system we live in and its priorities.

Kosher and Halal are not gourmet meals, they are not a big expense, especially if the hospital is wholesale contracting with one of the many Kosher or Halal suppliers who are out there to serve this very purpose. They are providing meal options for patients who have specific dietary restrictions so that those patients can eat and not have to deal with the additional stress of having to arrange their own meals in accordance with their religion. Last I checked, feeding patients was a necessity and lowering their stress aided their chances of survival. I doubt they will be able to substantially improve their treatment timetable with the money saved and that savings would not come free of any downside, so really isn't any practical, economic or medical reason to be offended by the practice of catering to patients fundamental dietary needs.

@Cierzo: common sense is a dying breed. People block their ears in denial as the world slowly crumbles. It's up to is awakened ones to clean up the mess of the asleep. If only our pineal glands wernt calcified all this time. One thing I can't figure out about the problem we have in Australia is that the Muslims kick up a stink about the lack of halal options on the menu. Once that right is declared, Aussie bogan bigots crack the shits when that option was avaliable. Ignorance is a terrible disease in this world.
