I Hate My Country

I wrote a few days ago about a boat loaded with African immigrants called Aquarius. This boat belongs to a German NGO, picked them very close to the Lybian coast and headed for Italy. Italian authorities did not allow it to access their port, and our stupid Spanish socialist PM offered them the chance to disembark in Valencia, much to the rejoice of the Italian government.

Not only that, they will be given the status of refugees (which they are NOT), which means they will get 500 euro a month for five months, and a work permit.

To add insult to injury, a hotel in Valencia said they will hire twenty of them. I noted down the name of the hotel to make sure I never stay there if I go to Valencia, and I am h
glad to see many talk of boycott them.

But that's not enough. The country should be burning with massive protests. Unemployed people (and there are MANY) should be rioting in the streets. Instead, we will talk about the football/soccer World Cup 馃槱馃槨

I should get on to the next boat lol.
OK seriously that's not very bad those Africans escaped their country cuz they can't live in it and their government doesn't give a damn about their rights.
CierzoM
@ItsGonnaBeOk It does not make them refugees, but economic immigrants, and a country has the right to reject them.
ItsGonnaBeOk26-30, M
Yes I know , think of it as helping poor African helpless people
CierzoM
@ItsGonnaBeOk I may understand this point, but
1- If you start helping, more will come.
2- There are nationals whose living conditions are not good, unemployed for years.

The road to hell is paved with good intentions.

@ItsGonnaBeOk These Africans should not become a burden to another country. In the first place, they should stay and make their country better, not run and take advantage of welfare elsewhere.
novembermoon51-55
@ItsGonnaBeOk I think it is a myth that these people are helpless. If they can organize themselves to make a boat trip, they can organize themselves to help themselves where they are instead of leeching onto another country鈥檚 economy which is already not in good shape.

@novembermoon What I see here is tall strong young men, many of them with a phone, not exactly what we have in mind all these time when we talk about poverty.
Mugin1646-50, M
@novembermoon According to the research of Swiss reporters, it costs about $10'000 to get smuggled from Eritrea (a small country in East Africa to Europe).

$3'000 from Eritrea to the border of Sudan
$1'000 from the border of Sudan to its capital, Khartoum
$3'000 from Khartoum to the coast of the Mediterranean Sea
$3'000 for the crossing to Italy

The prices are from 2015, so they might be a bit different now.
CierzoM
@Mugin16 If they are so poor, how do they get 10.000$?

Spaniards who emigrated to Europe or America did not have 10.000$. Often not even 100.
Mugin1646-50, M
@Cierzo Good question. Very good question.
CierzoM
@Mugin16 I am still waiting for one of those talking about the 'poor refugees' (refugees my ass) to answer it.
Mugin1646-50, M
@Cierzo You may be waiting for a very long time.
ItsGonnaBeOk26-30, M
@Cierzo OK I am living in Africa right now first me when I tell you , 1USD = 24 SDG so 10000 USD equals a lot of money , the average person makes about 2000SDG and 97% of goes to sugar, bread, food bills and rent.
ItsGonnaBeOk26-30, M
And they can't organize anything they travel north to Egypt where there is a guy near a port who smuggle people for living
