I Want to Know the Story Behind Your Username
I am an avid gardener and horticulturist and grow many odd and unusual plants , so I would naturally pick a name of a plant or flower. I have a beautiful specimen of datura in a large pot that is over 8 feet tall and gets 50 blossoms at a time. It spends its summers outdoors and its winters in the greenhouse, just like me!
My given name starts with the letter d and ends with the letter a just like datura, so I thought that was pretty cool, too. But the biggest reasons I chose datura for my name are because of its common names and powers! Datura is called many things, among them Angel's Trumpet and Devil's Trumpet, both sides of our human nature. In India it is called Sacred Dhatura, and we have that side as well. It is also called Moon Flower and since my sign is Cancer, the moon is my ruling planet and I have a strong connection to it. The first moon landing even occurred on my birthday.
Datura is used by many cultures as a psychedelic for the purpose of hallucinations, vision quests, and shamanic journeys to other worlds and dimensions and since I feel life is a spiritual journey and that there are other unknown worlds and dimensions, this seemed appropriate, too!
A strong word of caution, though. Datura is very poisonous if not properly prepared and the results can be toxic and even fatal.
