Agree with Derek chauvin verdict?

I am against police defunding and against Police brutality. I have the highest respect for the good cops out there. When you are in trouble who do you call? The police. They deserve and need support from the public.

I feel like overall police do get carried away and there are a lot of egos out there. I do believe something needs to change with how the police operates and are trained.

What Derek Chauvin did was absolutely wrong. Floyd had drugs in his system and health issues that may have contributed in his own death but ultimately Derek’s show of force is what killed him. It was wrong and he deserves punishment. He makes good cops look bad.

Just curious what others think of the verdict? I feel like the three counts was a little severe

I am against bad cops and brutality, and firmly believe that after 11 complaints (7 of them from white people) Chauvin should have been fired before ever interacting with Floyd.

However, after hearing the testimony from the experts and seeing the videos, no. I do not agree with the verdict, but sadly, I know why it had to be handed down. Anything less, and the top story right now would be nationwide rioting and a rising death toll.

It's disgusting we live in a time of emotion over facts, mob rule over justice. But it is what it is.

@PrivateHell good point! Whole thing could have been avoided
@JS1992 yes it could have, without killing justice and the rule of law. It could have been avoided by firing Chauvin long ago after the 3rd complaint. It could have been avoided by Floyd choosing not to take a lethal drug cocktail, resisting arrest or at least being honest when asked if he was on something. It could have been avoided by the media being honest and open from the very start about what happened back during the very first reports.

I'm sick of the manipulation and the deliberate attempts to divide the nation and it's people. I am sick of all the half truths, ommissions and blatant lies just to fuel outrage and suspicion, so they can get rich off us fighting each other.

@PrivateHell The man was in handcuffs. He posed no risk. By every definition of what constitutes reasonable force in the state, he was well beyond that. And I think it's important to remember that the defense witnesses were paid. That's how that works.
@Ynotisay the man died of asphyxiation brought on by a lethal dose of meth and fentynal. Yes he was cuffed, when your point would be? Did you not see the video of them attempting to get him into the car? He was screaming he couldn't breathe before anyone put any hold on him. He was also stiffening up and refusing to cooperate or allow them to buckle him in. He laid down on the backseat and even kicked an officer in his struggle. This is when Chauvin pulled him out onto the street and subdued him. Floyd's female companion even yells at Floyd to stop resisting.

I often wonder, in that situatiin, what so people honestly think should have happened? Are the cops supposed to say, "oh well, he doesn't feel like being arrested today." And just let him go? How would anyone ever be arrested again? And what if he is let go and ends up killing someone?

@PrivateHell I'll repeat it. The man was handcuffed. That alone eliminates any REASONABLE FORCE by a police officer. The suspect was in custody. There's nothing more to say. You can argue all you want about what led up to it, or who he was, and it's invalid. If you want to talk about the facts I'm there. People are turning this man in to a hero. He wasn't. He was a career criminal who was high on illegal drugs and had just committed a petty crime. But that makes ZERO difference in regards to what happened. If it was a white guy in that position the outcome would have been the same. Chauvin broke the law and our legal system worked. Anything outside of that is just noise.
@Ynotisay you came to my conversation with your views (which I listened to without defiance or hostility). I did not seek you out.

The man was not secured and in custody (despite being cuffed)... This is the fact that lead to the restraint where he unfortunately died from his drug use. The officers were attempting to secure him and subdue him. He was resisting and refusing to cooperate to the point that he even kicked an officer in the chest during the struggle. That is a fact on video, and not the actions of a secured and restrained man. The reason he was dragged from the car and Chauvinn pinned him are indeed important, and it is ridiculous to say otherwise. Like say ing all you need to know is a man bled to death and the fact he shot himself had nothing to do with it.

I am not defending Chauvin so much as I am defending our system of justice, where a person is innocent until proven guilty, and is tried and convicted based upon facts and evidence, not emotion and bias.

@PrivateHell Go read up on Minnesota law on what constitutes reasonable force. All those things you said you said in the last paragraph are true. He was found guilty on the facts and the evidence. I don't know what else you want. Emotion and bias had nothing to do with the VERDICT. Except it seems in your case. Because you're coming it from a place of emotion. Bias? I don't know you.
@Ynotisay wrong again. Honestly I have no emotion connected directly to the case at all. The only emotion I have felt through this whole thing is a deep disgust at seeing clearly the emotional manipulation of the masses, and what it is doing to out nation and system of laws. Derek Chauvin was tried and convicted long before he even entered the courtroom. And, if the verdict had been anything less than guilty, this conversation would have been more about how "justified" the riots burning several cities to the ground was. Of this I have absolutely no doubt.

@PrivateHell He was convicted because he was guilty (and I'll say it again) UNDER THE RULE OF LAW.
But you sure tipped your hand with the last sentence. I'm done now. No interest. Thanks.
@Ynotisay see ya. Have a great night
