I Was Home Schooled

I wasn't, and can hardly understand why parents would voluntary chose for it, it's important for children to got raised with other people and opinions than the one's they are used to.

I get your point but have you seen the latest developments of the US educational system? No, my kids would get a far better education at home. They would get one that fits them, not one that is aimed at Joe Average.

I think home schooling gives kids the possibility to be exposed to many more people and opinions than when they are stuck in the classroom of the same building with the same people everyday.

I wasn't home schooled either but I have a multi-cultural background. I moved 7 times to 4 countries and 2 states before the age of 17. And visited many more countries during this time. I can't imagine all I would have missed out on living in the same country going to the same school with the same people for 12 years.

GoneRogue, as a ll boy from the big city we, as an atheistic family moved from the modern big city to a small Christian village and we were send there to the local Christian school, and no, I didn't got converted by their ideas nor got very much influenced by it, quite the opposite, I learned there, there's more in the world than just the ideas I was raised with. My parents never had the idea that we as kids, had to be protected against that "different" world and that it was a good idea to see what others think and do, I never regretted it.
My oldest daughter was in public school until last year. She has anxiety problems. She asked me to homeschool her. Thankfully she's decided she wants to try to go back next year. I was homeschooled my last year of school and i liked it, only because i could finish my grade early!

I had a young lady 17 come to volunteer for me, she was home schooled. The poor girl had zero social skills. When she spoke it was like listening to her mother. She had no original ideas. I felt so badly for her.

@kingkyrie Wouldn't you protect your kids from "the bad world" ? Would you send your kids to a school where they indoctrinate them with ideas that go against your lifestyle? I don't get why people are bashing christians here all of a sudden. I'm sure they want to give their kids the best they can offer. As far as I know every parent tries to protect their kids from "bad influences" whatever they believe them to be.

It's like you're under the assumption there's no life outside of school and that school is the only place you can interact with other people. Sorry but that doesn't seem realistic to me.

Oh, upon getting to know the mother it was evident that it was done for bizarre reasons ( strange "Christian" beliefs)

Librarymouse, that's one of the things I thought what could be the result of homeschooling!

That's ok, I meant the people who chose to do it for other, more bizarre reasons.
Yeah, there are lots who do it for religious reasons. I totally disagree with that

GoneRogue, in your case it's not to isolate your kids from "the bad world" but to give them the best you can offer, but I just think it's important kids grow up together with other kids, with different views etc, to learn to communicate and interfere with others, with possible other views and opinions.

Katelyn, 60-70% you learn at school is a waist of time anyway, but again, it's important, kids growing up with interacting with others it one of the most important things they learn there.
