I Walked Away

This year is the first year I won't be home for Christmas.

20 years of brokenness in my family.
Abuse of every kind.
Hate.
This year I walked away from the mist toxic people I know.
Their precious dining table will have an empty seat this year.

The thing is, they'll probably be fine with it.

You have made a wise decision. If you knew that when you entered a room, people would attack you and cut you with invisible wounds that take years to heal, why would you walk into that room? I have made a similar decision, and the relief I feel is tremendous.
More important that you be kind and gentle to yourself than be concerned for how they feel ... try to find good people to connect with rather than withdrawing.

You are not alone. I am at my second Christmas not seeing my family. I have no regrets.

@SW-User True. In a sense I don't have a family and never did. I am hoping to meet a woman that will change that.

Make sure you celebrate Christmas or the Winter Festival yourself, just brightens your week up. (I tried not doing anything it just makes you gloomy).

yup, they will be fine. you don't worry about a thing about that family who abused you. Just go away and may be meet them once after few years so they know you are alive.
