Why were the aliens in War of the Worlds

so good at the space but so bad at the microbiologies?

In the novel they took the movie from, it's because the generation of aliens which prepared the invasion had no memory of pathogens faced by their ancestors. They were completely eradicated in their own world. So they had no understanding of infections.
