How do you react when you see a tall story here that you know not to be true? Do you call it out or let it slide if you can see no harm?

I’ve seen one or two posts here that sometimes talk about areas like the military that because of my experience I know they are spinning a yarn, but they aren’t claiming to achieved something others actually did or anything deceitful like that I have tended to turn a blind eye. Some people here are engineers or work in legal circles who might have experienced something similar.

So do you let it pass or ring the bell and get involved?

Depends. I feel like some people just spew fake bullshit all the time, and sometimes I get a little impatient with it and call it out.

Otherwise I let it slide, I don't care. I take everything I see on the internet with a grain of salt.

However, there is something to be said about what you are talking about, it's called "stolen valor" and it should be called out if you know it's happening.

This takes away from our actual soldiers and military veterans and cheapens what they experienced and went through.

@SumKindaMunster Yes I think if it went as far as the stolen valour point I would feel compelled to do something about it. Fortunately it’s never gone that far. Just people claiming things have happened that just wouldn’t or are impossible in certain circles.

In real life I would say something, online, no, it is rarely worth getting in an argument with keyboard warriors.
I don't see any point to getting into things to fight. I'm pretty sure that's not what this is supposed to be about and nobody's ever read a series of arguments on the net and changed their beliefs 180 degrees, having just realized the wisdom presented to them in text, often capitalized with a strong abuse of punctuation marks.

@stound Yes I agree. I know some folk come here for w debate but I’m usually just idling away a lunch break or a slow tv evening.
@WintaTheAngle I tend to think that about 90% (at least from what I've seen) of what people call 'debate' is more accurately described as 'throwing out all sorts of partisan BS, then losing their shit and flinging insults for most of the thread', but it could be that I've just always missed the actually constructive conversations and possible debates. either way, I've never really taken much interest in delving into politics here and it becomes less appealing each day.

Just block them so you don’t have to see them in your feed

I've been known to question or call out on occasion..

@Keeper How do they react. Does it become an argument?
Keeper · M
@WintaTheAngle It depends - arguing isn't my goal, most of time they will not even respond.

I usually roll my eyes and move on.

@MarmeeMarch It’s that how it’s done? I think I took a wrong turn at Catfish Alley. What a fool I am.
