Well, all I can say is you had better buy some taco seasoning, some cheese, and keep your other fillings you enjoy in the house.
I used to be very into Mexican food...and I used to make my own tortillas. I had a small tortilla press...lard, flour, and that's it. I used the flour tortillas to make quesadillas.
@4meAndyou I need to find a good way to make tortillas without the lard. I hate the tasteless store stuff and i've been told the traditionaal are MUCH better.
@HorrorshowHijabi They really are better. You don't really need to buy a press, either, if you've got the knack for pressing the dough out quickly into a disc.
Try crisco. The best pie crusts made by my grandmother were all made with lard, but crisco is vegetable oil, and they say a pie crust made with cisco is almost as good.
@HorrorshowHijabi Corn every time. The fine ground is similar to a flour tortilla but has more flavor. If you really want to rock it, and you have a charcoal grill, soak some mesquite wood in water overnight, add a little hint of fine ground rock salt to the tortilla, put a cast iron griddle on the grill, and cook the tortillas on the griddle 10 seconds a side with a few seconds of smoke and a closed lid.
@HorrorshowHijabi Ahh. I live in a small apartment now. Just tonight I was looking at the Ninja Foodie. It's an indoor grill, and if you have room for only ONE appliance, this one is it.
