LGBT in movies/games

i just read an article claiming that its bad that the MCU doesn't have any LGBT characters. why is this even a problem? the movies aren't about each characters sexuality so can we stop shoehorning it into our movies and video games for no reason?

dont get me wrong i'm supportive of the LGBT community but if it has nothing to do with the plot/story being told then i dont care if one character is gay. its not important.

The problem is they never handle the characters well when they do attempt to do it... It feels forced the majority of the time...

Like if someone was so concerned about not being racist they went around trying to force themselves on black people to be their friends simply for the sake of some seperate agenda...

A lot of people don't realize this and so they complain "Why isn't -insert any random bullshit here- not in this thing that I like!?" Well one.. if you LIKE it then don't fucking complain about it.. and two! You probably do like it because it was all handled genuinely and authentically instead of throwing a bunch of cheesy assed propaganda down your throat with some kind of lame political subliminal messaging added to the mix...

In my opinion there are already plenty of stories with those kinds of characters in them... A lot of the time they're crappy characters because they're forced in there.. So if that's what they want is to ruin another series with more forced bullshit then by all means... I just don't get why you can't enjoy the stuff when it comes out naturally for what you're looking for in a series... Like the original mass effect series.. Where your protagonist can be customized and can be whatever sexuality you want..

@kinkysweetie For yourself mostly. For the sake of why post under my post initially if you truly had nothing to say unless you're a complete moron...

Lol... Really? You clearly didn't fucking read either the original authors post or my post.. That or your reading and comprehension ability is terrible.. It sounds like you just jump to conclusions to make yourself feel more important or entitled to the dialogue being had about the discussion at hand.. 🤷 Get a pair of reading glasses.. See what you read then and get back to me..

@SerenitiesScars dunno what that other persons reply was since its deleted but in response to your initial reply i agree. Either a gay character's sexuality has so little impact on the story or character arc its a wonder if its even worth mentioning or its so OTT that u just refer to them as the gay person. Some of my fave characters in games are gay but there my fave for reasons nothing to do with it. There just fun characters.

@NeloAngelo Yeah... Valkyrie profile I think had a gay character named Jan... xD Who had me cracking up laughing like the entire game so I put them in on like every mission I could... But I also feel they did a good job on the characters in that game because it wasn't forced at all.. The characters all felt alive and as if they were part of the same dynamic and plot.. They didn't take away from the plot at all..

But complaining about something already well done and good and just trying to force it or shove it into being gay is just dumb.. Idk why people have to make such a big issue with this..

Amen to that, being homosexual or transgender does not determine the value of a character, their deeds and choices do that. It's sad that some people can't look past physical appearances and benign sexual preferences.

I dont even think any of the marvel characters they used were gay at any point in the comics. Only one that comes to mind is that guy from Apha Flight, Ultimate version of Colossus and the alternate version of Wolverine that was gay with Hercules.

It'll probably happen in time. If Ironman is bowing out after infinity war part 2 then maybe Riri Williams will be introduced as Ironheart. I cant remember if she was explicitly stated as bi/lesbian but it was kind of implied.

@5thApprentice I've only read one or two comics about riri but i didn't see any signs. I don't see how it matters to that character at this point. She's smart enough to take iron mans scraps and build her own suit and will essentially be his successor. She's defined by her intelligence not sexuality.

@NeloAngelo My whole point is that if they do go for it, it should be organic not just added in there for the sake of being in there. As far as Riri maybe being lgbt, she was awfully close to her friend. Could be purely platonic but to me it kind of looked like there was a possibility of romance.
I liked that ambiguity because its more close to real life. People usually dont announce their sexuality until it becomes relevant (taking partners to a work party or whatever).

I agree 100%...an issue needs to stop being created where there is none.

Well said ! ....Fully agree with your comments

Diversity is important, that’s why.
NeloAngelo · 26-30, M
@kinkysweetie Diversity is good as long as it makes sense in the narrative. There was a game set in Ww1 recently that got back lash for not having female characters. The developers were going for realism and since there weren't many women soldiers then it wouldn't make sense if there were there.

@SW-User true but the only problem with it its how they do it. Either a characters sexuality is so insignificant it wasn't worth mentioning or its a stereotype, there a gay person first and all other traits come second to that. There are amazing gay characters in games and tv but there not good characters just because there gay.

@Michiboots in your game the fact that he is a crossdresser is the centre piece of the plot. So its a good point and if it focusses on the struggles one faces then even better.

Another example of a good CD was Mulan. Getting found out would literally mean death. But the motivation was to save her father.

As long as it wasn't an otherwise regular story where on one page or game sentence u say. "oh btw he crossdressers in his spare time" and never explore that aspect then it would be boring / pointless.
