I tend to think of fwb as legitimate friends that sometimes have sex. It could be rare or often, but it's not the central driver of the relationship.

Fuck buddies I think of people who are only "friends" because of the sex. The sex is the central driver of the relationship.

@Karenina of you are controlling what each other do, it's probably evolving from friends with benefits into a deeper relationship.

If you are getting and following advice, then it would still be fwb. Good friends don't control each other, but they will offer good advice or recommendations to help watch out for each other.
