Have you ever offered to help out at a soup kitchen but they turned you down because you don't belong to their church ?

Or any for that matter ? Seriously, it defeats the purpose....

I won't have anything to do with any kind of religion-supported organizations. Lotsa thrift stores like that here, full of church lady volunteers.

I'm not bothered by churchy people , I'm an atheist...I'm not offended ...it goes in one ear and out the other ... I just like helping people

That's bad isn't it, you would think they would grateful of any help..I'm not religious but would be more than happy to help out like that..

Yay a clicky church. Should have told them to go back to highschool
summersong · F
Is that really a thing that happens? That's shameful.
SW-User
Yes, unfortunately

@Chernobylplayground: I can't handle churchy folk who care more about whether you go to services than whether you're a good person. Ugh
SW-User
@Summersong: yeah
i havent heard of that happening. if any church does that , they need to re think things

Jerks

Wow how stupid...perfectly sums up religion
SW-User
Yeah , I'm an atheist for a reason
SW-User
That's awful, it shouldn't matter what religious ideology you have. Helping others is all that should matter. :(
SW-User
@InfiniteBlue: it's a shame there are people being turned away that genuinely want to help
SW-User
@Chernobylplayground: really sad, I hope you find a more inclusive accepting charity or cause to devote some time to.
SW-User
@InfiniteBlue: thanks ,I'm still looking

I have offered, but was turned down, not because of my church affiliation, but because the county of San Bernardino requires a medical back ground thingy for anyone handling food, or preparing food for the publicm
Ended up helping them clean up instead.
SW-User
yeah, I don't get it..
I offered to volunteer at the animal shelter where I adopted my cats..
they had a tiresome application process and in the end my work schedule didn't fit thier needs!

I give up!
SW-User
it sorta makes sense to me. they want to know the type of person that you are, the last thing they can afford is to have someone coming in and creating a problem of some sort that reflects poorly on their organization.
Wow what a bunch of snobs 😳😳
SW-User
@justmerae: it's mostly churches where I live and unless you belong to them they seem to snub you ...it's just not right ...I'm trying to figure out what else I can do
SW-User
@MrsNel: I don't blame you ...I'm going to see what else I can do
Ok.. Sigh
LivAbit · 46-50, M
