When's the last time you made a new friend?

It's hard to me.
I see other people bond so easily though.

Years ago, I was sitting in the waiting room at the dentist office. Two women were looking at magazines and then starting chatting. The conversation quickly changed to couponing. One knew how and one wanted to learn, they got all excited and exchanged phone numbers and I was sitting there thinking, how come I can't make fast friends like that? 🙄🤔😬😐

Its all about connection it doesnt happen all the time, sometimes never but when it does make the most of it
ASLAN · 26-30, M
I don't make those anymore 🤷‍♂️
curiosi · 56-60, F
People like us are better off, we don't make connections often but when we do they are deep..
iamnikki · 26-30, F
[@423488,curiosi] I'm not so sure. I get lonely. Sometimes I wish I at least had a significant other during this time🙁
ozgirl512 · 26-30, F
The easiest friends to make are those people don't the same things you're doing, interests in common..
ozgirl512 · 26-30, F
[@467302,iamnikki] maybe you're not picking up on some clues?
iamnikki · 26-30, F
[@516864,ozgirl512] what do you mean
ozgirl512 · 26-30, F
[@467302,iamnikki] just suggesting that maybe people are shy and their approach is too subtle...

Can't even remember. Probably at least 15 years ago. I've given up on making friends. My housemate tells me he considers me too boring to be his friend.
iamnikki · 26-30, F
[@358142,greenmountaingal] who is your housemate? And that's mean of them to say. I've given up before too.
I was trying before the pandemic hit. It messed up what little progress I did have going

[@467302,iamnikki] I like my new housemate but he has insulted me too many times to hope for friendship. He says I have no self-discipline (I'm fat), and finds me boring. He also believes I am an immoral person because he has heard me relate a few anecdotes from my life in San Francisco in the 1960s. Back then, Newsweek Magazine did not find me boring.

I have found that the easiest way for me to make conversation is to just ask the other person about themselves. people like talking about themselves and they like it more when other people are interested in them.

I'm pretty shy but that's what works for me anyway. 🤷‍♀️

[@467302,iamnikki] lol Well, screw her. :P

You seem really nice and smart and funny. I think you'd be great to talk to. 🤗
iamnikki · 26-30, F
[@1073303,Ksmile14] well thanks. Wish I had someone I could show that to

[@467302,iamnikki] Awww show it to me 🙃

2013. We clicked right away but then I lost touch (changed phones and lost her number after I moved states) ☹️
iamnikki · 26-30, F
[@1156763,SideQuest] yea that's how I lost most of my friends. I assumed that I'd go-to middle school with all the same kids from elementary. And same when transitioning to HS. I thought lots of my high school classmates would go-to the community college nearby with me ...wrong wrong wrong all wrong

I had a conversation with a young woman at my church similar to those women you observed in your dental office; she wanted to learn how to can (preserve fruits and veggies at home). I am a superb home canner, have even been paid to teach it a few years ago. She was very excited about learning it and I was looking forward to teaching her and possibly making a new friend. Then her husband found out about my ethnicity and it turns out he hated that group of people! So he ordered her not to speak to me again. And she didn't.
iamnikki · 26-30, F
[@358142,greenmountaingal] oh that's terrible ☹️
greenmountaingal · 70-79, F
[@467302,iamnikki] Very depressing.
I don't, nor really look or wish for any, tbh.. I'm an introvert with high walls. Plus it's a chit chat kind of world, and I need depth....
Humanity is a bit too cruel for me as well, & most humans suck. 🤨

Nobody likes me 😫

Lol sometimes I wonder about the same. I went to pick someone from school, and the moms were all chatting with each other. Except for me, I stood in a corner just waiting, and I wondered how their first conversation had started. Who initiated it? What did they say? Did they make awkward eye contact the first few days before actually saying hi? How did they know that they would get a good enough response from the other person if they said hi? Etc etc... I could probably find logical answers to those questions too, but practically I couldn't do it.

[@1089099,stonesandripples] yep that's me, always the outsider looking in
