I too loved books and how they were able to keep me intrigued. I got into the Nancy Drew series as a child. Was always so difficult to put the current book down when Mama called me. I wasn't allowed to bring my book to the table.
A recent read I loved throughout was 'Touching Spirit Bear' by Ben Mikaelsen.
An abused boy was arrested and offered Prison or complete solitude living on an Island alone for a year. He chose the island. And learned in his confinement being alone was NOT quite what he expected. He had to build his hut alone. Find and cook his own meals. Depending on his own ability to release his anger.
