I almost did at my first job right out of college because it was an absolute nightmare. Not only were people stabbing each other in the back but I was constantly being thrown under the bus by my boss for things that were her shortcomings, even in front of the president of the company. The worst thing , though, is that my co-workers and boss constantly picked on me and teased me because of my disability (I have Cerebral Palsy), how I talked, the interests I had, even how many commas I used when writing. Almost anything they could turn against me. In hindsight I should have sued the company but I was just so happy to land another job and get out. (And I live in a small town that is not flush with opportunities for a web designer.)
Even though I'm "grown up" now and have many more responsibilities, I would still quit if my current job ever got that bad. While quitting and not having income has stress of its own, you do have to consider what kind of mental anguish you can take.
