Brushing it Off

What started as a very good day of work got increasingly busier and more aggravating as the day wore on. 2 coworkers getting lazy at the wrong time. Things going wrong out of nowhere. An inspector trying to tell me our shit was wrong when I knew it was right was almost my breaking point.

Then I hit the reset button I’ve been working hard to install inside myself.

I asked him to clarify his point and explain himself slowly. I let him know that my main goal as an ironworker is to do the job in a way that keeps him constantly happy.
After he started explaining it to me again, and I was being more relaxed and focused , I stopped him after his 4th sentence.

“You’re looking at the wrong wall.” I said calmly. “The wall you’re talking about is right there on H line. This is G line.”

He apologized.
I said, “Next time don’t start out aggressive. Guys like me don’t need that shit. We do good work and if I were any better they’d need to name the building after me.”
Then I laughed and smiled and told him if he finds anything that’s actually wrong that I’d be right over there near E-6.

I was right, he was wrong, and I was able to get back to the 4 other things plaguing the end of my day.
