Back when I worked as a lifeguard, they always had a paper schedule posted on the wall and the manager would post it in the groupchat
And any time you wanted to swap shifts around, you would fill out a form that you both sign. Sometimes that procedure wasn't followed and you just do the shift change over text. Not the biggest deal in the world.
One day I come in midway through the week, and I happen to look at the schedule, and there's a shift marked down for me that I didn't remember being there. I was exhausted. I looked at the schedule on my phone and it wasn't on the schedule in the group chat. So I went through the stack of shift change forms to see if it was in there, and I found nothing. And then I went through my texts and found nothing.
So I called up my manager and asked her if she knew what was going on. She did not. She asked around, and it turns out one of the head lifeguards asked everyone else if I could pick up his shift and they could not... so he just put me down instead without notifying me. Fucking moron. My boss felt so bad about it that she offered to make me zucchini bread. I wonder what kind of conversation she had with the head guard.
Anyway, I didn't end up having to work the shift because another guard volunteered to take the bullet for me. It was a nice pool to work at.
