I uploaded my resume to an actuarial community to get some feedback

And boy did they give me feedback lol. Most of them just made fun of me but some of them had some really helpful tips. I had let a lot of things kinda... slide over the years. I was using an old template that my college gave me and it was just ugly, and I needed to move some things around since I had work experience. Not to mention fleshing out what I do for my job.

I feel pretty horrible and sensitive but hey, no pain no gain. I made some edits and I'm sending my resume to a recruiter so they can dig into me more.

In other news, the one coworker who I sometimes complain about is retiring. It's a bit embarrassing for her to get out of her position before I do, but count your blessings I guess.

@BlueVeins hey so just remember that this is gonna help you stand out when you’re applying for jobs. If the people are actually giving you solid feedback, use the criticism to your advantage. I don’t know what area you live in, but in the south it is hard to get a job right now. I know people who have masters degrees who can’t get a job because jobs like to be picky.

One tip I learned is to specialize your experience so like let’s just say if you have a masters degree in accounting. A lot of jobs actually don’t care about that. They wanna know. Do you know how to do accounting for the manufacturing company you’re applying for? Because doing accounting for a company like Walmart is not gonna be the same type of accounting that you do for a manufacturing plant like Tysons. Neither are typically taught in the accounting program. It’s stuff you have to specialize in because what they teach at university level in the accounting program is just basic fundamentals even though it’s a lot of information. So you have to be specific and say you can do manufacturing accounting or whatever.

I have basic accounting knowledge and I would put that on my résumé, but nobody cares because everyone should know basic accounting information. So I don’t really stand out there no matter how proud I am for passing my accounting classes. No job cares 😭😭
