Just follow up. Doesn't sound confusing at all. When I hired people lots of points were given to picking up the phone and following up. Just do what he says.

It's a test of your actual interest in the position. And your ability to communicate. He's likely not going to call, he's waiting to see who calls back and shows real desire

Always follow up with a Thank you letter or card, mailed. Call them in 24 hours

@Iwillwait I agree. Just because you got the interview and maybe even blew his socks off does not mean that you can sit back. Send a Thank You card and CALL HIM when those 24 hours are up. You need to show that you appreciate his time and understand that he is human and might be busy or forget to call YOU.
